I am about to start Rifampin (300mgx2 p.d) and Zithromax (250mg daily).
I would love to hear from patients who have successfully treated Bart (no more symptoms) and what protocol you used to get well.
I know some of you use Levaquin, some Rifampin and Doxy or Rifampin and Zith. Some pulse the Doxy or Zith MWF. What combos at what dosages did you/do you take?
Thanks!

Myco,
I am not sure I can help you. I am not better after 25 weeks of treatment. Here is what I have done so far.
I took 600 rifampin and 250 zith plus 400 doxy for about 4 1/2 months with marginal improvement.
My doctor then had me pulsing M, W, F high doses of mycobutin 300 (like rifampin), zith 600, and omnicef 1200. All hell broke lose. I think that I was herxing every day. Then my wbc count went low and he took me off the myco and the zith. I had my blood retested and I am waiting to hear from him on what to do next.
I am going to ask for levaquin as the rifampin doesn't seem to be touching my derealizaiton, cognitive, memory, anxiety stuff too much. Don't know what he will say to that, but I thought I would give it a try.
Good luck. We all react differently. Kathy

I took levaquin 500 mg once per day for 30 days. Then Bactrim DS for about 11 months. (Bactrim was to treat babs, but doc said it also hits bart.)
It's been nearly 4 years since I finished treatment and am still symptom free, enjoying my life.
Drugs are just part of the success story. Read Burrascano for the supplements, exercise, things not to do (alcohol, smoking, etc.), diet, etc.
I followed the Burrascano protocol to a T.

Unfortunately, I can't say I "successfully" treated my Bartonella if I follow your definition ("no more symptoms") because it came back.
However, Levaquin hit my Bart hard (strong herxes) and took away all symptoms while I was on it. I was on 500 mg/day for 6 months.
Bicillin also worked well for me to suppress Bart. (1.2 mu 2x/week) Rifampin works well for some, but not for me.
As far as alternatives to abx, the rizol "My" also worked well. (www.biopureus.com)
