I have Lyme disease as well as interstitial cystitis. Have been struggling to find a med for Lyme that does not further irrigate my bladder I am taking Bactrim for strep d in my bladder. After I began taking plaquenil 200mg / day and clarithromycin (1,000 mg per day) about a week ago, I have felt a surge of energy whereas before, fatigue has been a major issue with me. Clarithromycin hurts my bladder some and irritates my stomach to some degree... Whereas bicillin shots made me very fatigued but did not hurt my bladder.
Does the fact I feel so much energy mean the clarith. Is not working? It is working?
Anyone else with this experience?

Do you have, or suspect you have Bartonella?
For some patients, Biaxin works wonders on their Bart.

Biaxin was great for me. Took it for 18 months!

It sounds *to me* (I'm not a doctor) like it is helping you. Hope it continues to work!
My guess is that the Biaxin is hitting Lyme, because it is a good drug for Lyme, and Bicillin is good for Lyme too. So maybe your reaction to Bicillin was a herx.
I herxed on Amox (which is related to Bicillin) for awhile and eventually started feeling better on it.

I do have hemobartonella - the Fry bug which is supposed to react well with Biaxin. But I am not sure exactly what this Fry bug is all about.

I'm glad you are feeling better on Biaxin.
I just started Biaxin and another med 2 weeks ago and I am having increased pain.

A surge of energy after only a Week sounds like you might be clearing up a co-infection. Great! But be prepred for downturns, too. (Lyme herxing)
That combo works great for many, esp. ones w/ joint & arthritic issues. Hope you continue to improve!

Have you seen any improvement in bladder symptoms?

Last night my bladder bothered me so took a half clarith. But today, have had no bladder pain and took the full 1000 mg dose. Still feel tons of energy. Never been a morning person... but wake up feeling ready to go! It may also be the hormones (testosterone, estrodiol etc.)
Have a phone consult with Dr. C tomorrow to discuss with him my treatment. Can't wait to see what he says. Not sure if I should be taking the bicillin and the biaxin. But something seems to be working. Yea!!! (Hope I don't jinx myself).
Thanks to everyone for your replys! It's great to get encouragement from such a wonderful group of folks!

OH yes! Those additional hormones make a big difference! (esp testosterone)

Amanda, does that mean he thought that combo was better even including the IV drugs?
Which is fine with me because I realllly don't want to go on IV again. Did it once and hated it.
