Hey Everyone, My husband has Lyme. Does anyone know if the disease can travel through sperm (to myself or to a fetus)? We do have one son. My husband became ill 6 weeks after he was born. I am not pregnant now, but just thinking of the future if we have another baby.
Thanks so much.

Part of the job is to spread itself around.
In my training I have been taught that it can be passed through seminal fluid which is what sperm are in.

Not sure its been scientifically proven; but seems like a possibily.

Yes. Even Wikipedia of all sources acknowledges this (though it then links to an article by Steere saying transmission is not likely to occur). I believe everything opposite of what Steere says.
Bigstan, thanks for the link. That could explain why I'm not well. I think it may be a piece of the puzzle anyway.
My husband has lyme also but he refuses treatment. I've been in treatment for 5 years but I'm far from well. I'm much better though.
Could be he's passing it back to me. I think condoms are in order. I had never read this before or given it much thought even though I feel it's sexually transmitted.
Guess I should have given it more thought and connected the dots. Posted by aliyalex (Member # 6976) on :
my brother gave it to his wife. he had it long before he knew her. she's in treatment now, too.

common sense would say yes if( syphiillis the other spirokete ) is sexually transmitted why would'nt the lyme spirokete be too!
