I see that Dr. B mentions that brain spect scans will be abnormal in Lyme patients.
I had one a month ago..guess what. Abnormal.
Has anyone had a spect scan? If you are cured / recovered / in remission did it go back to being "normal" afterwards?
Just worried about my noggin'

I had one in 2005 and 2006. Abnormal - global heterogeneous hypoperfusion I was on iv for a year and it showed the same. I was ok for about 8 mos off antibiotics, I just took mri, showed lesions. symptoms back with a vengeance and not subsiding though on IV.

I had brain fog that went away to a great extent with treatment. On good days (most days, now), I'm 100% now, cognitively, and I continue to improve.
Haven't had any scans done, though.

If you had to choose a test due to money, no insurance would you choose MRI, SPECT or something else for brain damage symptoms?

Onbam - I have to ask. which medicine helped with "brain fog." It's my worst symptom. I'm hoping that it will one day subside.

I prefer spects...but that is just me (I'm not a doctor.) My MRI was normal more or less. They are a static picture. A spect looks at how your brain functions (and it is less expensive.) My spect was abnormal.
Burrascano mentions spects but not MRI. Although I know people who have lesions on their MRI with Lyme. I didn't, luckily.
Just my opinion

I have to have MRI's annually for 8 - 10 years (Just had my 8th one done a few months ago), then every few years, then 10 years, etc. supposedly for the rest of my life.
My 2004, 2005, and 2006 MRI's showed the white matter stuff LLMDs talk about that is associated with Lyme.
On the three MRI reports, it did list Lyme as one of the reasons for the white matter lesions.
As of my 8th MRI this year, the white matter lesions are still present. I will be interested to see if they are gone after treatment.

Mepron/Zith, despite the fact that I never tested positive for any type of Babesia. I also used whatever dining "teaspoons" were available to measure it out, so I may have in fact been taking double doses, which are used to treat Toxoplasmosis (something I've never been tested for).
You can get there!

Columbia University Medical Center has some good information regarding the difference between MRI, SPECT, and PET for Lyme:
