What do people use that they like? What is good for the buck and super healing to the gutt....

( i know ive asked this before but my memory is horrible)

culturelle at walgreens/CVS is top of the line. $20 for 30 days.

Florastor is right at $20 for 20 pills and that last me 2 days.

Drink Kefir from the grocery store. We use lifeway brand $3.50 a bottle and last about 3-4 days. I drink 1 cup daily.

I think those are the best.

I swear by culturelle and a mixture of some PB8. I get the culturelle at Costco for $17 and the PB8 from Whole Foods. These 2 seem to work good for me.

Good luck!

Personally, neither one ever did a thing for me. I wasted years of taking PB8 thinking it would protect me from yeast. NOPE.

I just received my prescription strength VSL#3 from the mail order prescription service I have thru insurance. SAVED me TONS of money.. tons.

It contains 900billion live bacteria per packet. Two packets a day. Praying this will really help! Right now I'm playing catch-up due to some miscues on my part. ( I also blame my GI dr for this current issue.) grrrr

[I got a 3 month supply for $80...but it will likely last longer than that.]

kefir has a lot of sugar in it. which is like contra indicated towards yeast.
thats what i dont get, told my np assisant that i had severe stomach problems she told me yogurt or frozen yogurt.

I mean what do u do when most of it has sugar, are u suppose to have the plain with that horrible taste.. Yuck.

Lyme too can you please send me the info, maybe at my next appointment i can bring up to my doc, do you think medicare covers.. Please let me know! Thnx

yup plain! Goats milk yogurt is great too.
I like metagenics proboulardi, and prebiotics is just as important for my guts.

I have had a heck of a time since i started ABX three years ago...and am still mixing and matching and gulping them down!!

Yogurt at lunch. Culturelle before bed. Doc also has me take Sacchromyces Boulardi before bed.

Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :

Lenire.. I don't know about Medicare. Just ask your dr if he can give you a script for it and see what happens.

PM me if you need more info. Not sure what else I can tell you.

Even plain yogurt has too much sugar for me. No way. (BTW, you can add stevia to plain and it tastes really good)

Theralac... 40 dollars for 30

take one at bedtime

No worries

Paul

Theralac is good, very good! But I'm going for billions right now!! [lol]

I was having yeast issues and now finally I am not. I decided to mix it up with several different brands to get a broad spectrum of strains. And I'm doing great (even enjoying modest amounts of bread, pasta and fruit)!

Right now I'm mixing from the following:

Theralac (which is great)
Healthy Origins
Udo's Super 8 hi-potency
PB8

I general take a total of 120 - 150 billion live cells per day.

And I drink plain, organic Kefir once or twice per day.

Good luck!
Tammy

Store bought? Could you tell us how much sugar is in it? Thanks.

I do:

-Theralac: 1x / day (may up to 2)

-PB-8: 3x during the day. 1x at bedtime (sprinkle on tongue.)

-Florastore: 1x / day

So far, so good. I can even eat modests amount of corn / corn tortillas, potatoes, quinoa pasta, and once a week I have real Pizza and Ice Cream (Friday night dinner at my house.) Keeps me sane.

I take Ultimate Flora Critical Care, 50 Billion cultures per capsule.

I used to take 4 per day, but now I take 2 per day with no problems.

How much you need is different for everyone.

Does anybody know which of these probiotics are available at Whole Foods? I know Kefir is but I was curious about the others, i.e. Theralac, PB8, Floraster. Thanks.

Just to remind everyone. I recently read up on ways in which the immune system can be "manipulated" to tolerate chronic invaders. Probiotics help the body produce IL10, which dampens the immune response to allow some bacteria to be present in the intestinal wall.

This dampening can lead to tolerance that helps decrease systemic joint pain, and possibly Lyme-related symptoms.

So, Probiotics are very important.

I buy Florastor through drugstore.com 1 bottle 50 ct. is $29.97.

I take two a day.

I also bought Vitamin Shoppe Ultimate 10 Probiotic w/ 50 billion count for $27.49 I think 60 ct. take one a day.

I am new to all of this and have only been on them for a month and a half with no issues as of yet.

I am even newer (and now more scared) only doing whole yogurt and KEFIR-NO SUGARS added, and something called FERZYM by Specchiasol, Italian-obviously.

As I am in France, i need to do some research to find out: what works, what I can get here or online. Ain't got no Walgreens around the corner!

My probiotic regime seems a little LIGHT!??

Started on IV ROC just 2 days ago yippeeeeee!!

thanks for all the info people!

clueless... What probiotic are you taking??

Only the Kefir?? I don't think that's enough.. at all!! What is the total sugar CONTENT. Just because it has no added sugars doesn't mean it's sugar free.

I am trying to take 100-200 billion probiotic bacteria per day, and switch up the varieties to put as much quantity and variety of flora back into my gut. One that I've found helpful is Prescrip-Assist Pro by Researched Nutritionals. It's several strains of soil-based bacteria, which I have not found in other brands. And it seems to be pretty strong. I also like the Bio-K pods and capsules, in addition to the Sacchromyces (Florastor and other brands). Thanks to the referral here, I may add the VSL#3 to my regimen, since it's such a high number of bacteria per packet.

That's good, sunnydays.. I think at least 100 billion is what everyone should be taking. Wish I had known that when I was in treatment.

Posted by clueless (Member # 30019) on :

something called FERZYM by Specchiasol, Italian-brand but with an English website.

I suppose I really have to investigate the probiotic "count"

seriously Lymetoo- 100 billion??

365sunnydays,
where can I find the Prescript-assist Pro

thanks
