To give a short background I had neuropathy for about 6 months prior to my dx of lyme through Igenex and then a clinical dx of bart by my LLMD. We believe I had been infected for at least 3 years prior to dx, but obviously could have been longer.
Current treatment is IV rocephin 4 days on 3 days off Rifampin daily Flagyl 3 times a day for 3 days a week
I am seeing improvement in a number of my symptoms such as energy is up, headaches are less, generally feel better. BUT... the neuropathy in my hands and feet is getting worse.
I know there is really no way to know if this is a progression of disease or side effect of meds, but wanted to get some input from you all.
The other thing that is worse is a muscular/arthritic type of pain in just my right hand (I am right handed) but I cannot use my right hand much for the second half of the day, which is new...and stinks with a toddler and trying to work.
I know Flagyl can cause neuropathy but my LLMD said he hasn't seen in when used in a pulsing fashion like we are. Can Rifampin cause it as well? He is suggesting I go to Levaquin for Bart b/c he feels this means the bart is not being treated adequately, but I was nervous to do that originally b/c of chronic achilles tendonitis that I have had for years.
Thanks in advance for any insight someone may have.

Call me chicken but I wouldn't "go there." YIKES!
Yes, the flagyl can cause permanent neuropathy... so be cautious. You WOULD think that taking it only 3 days a week you would be safe.
