Don't ever take Augmentin!! It has an acid in it and causes intense bladder pain!!! My dr gave it to me for a bladder infection and I thought I was going to die!
Since I wasn't getting any better on the abx, I was very afraid my IC had come roaring back.
Well, every day after stopping the med, I got a little better until the pain was finally gone. THEN I found out Augmentin contains an acid. OMG!!
Try Marshmallow root. It worked wonders for me.

I just ordered marshmallow root for my stomach issues. It should be here soon.
All I have to do for my IC is stay away from caustic meds like Augmentin!! Posted by 'Kete-tracker (Member # 17189) on :
Do you know what type of "acid" this is? I know they add "clavulanate" but I don't believe it's acidic. It's a salt. Potassium clavulanate to be exact.
Supposedly adds more "kick" to the antibiotic action of the amoxy... or so my doctor's office head nurse says.
Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :
WEll...it says clavulanate acid .. I took it to mean and ACID....
Sure set me on fire!

Hey Lymetoo. Just a note..the marshmellow root that you ordered will probably help your IC. I need to take it all the time because it really does help my poor bladder.

kids... I'm glad you stopped by. I wanted to make sure you saw this. Did you also see my thread on the aloe vera?
Is marshmallow root the same as marshmallow cream?
Can I add Nutella?
What? It's not? Say it ain't so... Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :
I wish! BTW, did you check the sugar content of Nutella? I was going to buy it .. then took a second look. Dang.
Posted by Camp Other (Member # 29797) on :
17hens, I like the way you think...
Posted by 17hens (Member # 23747) on :
Tutu, never, ever look at the sugar content! It'll get ya every time.
Confession time... I remember when I would go visit my Oma in Germany.
If she knew I was coming (sometimes we'd surprise her), she would have a BIG jar of Nutella waiting for me.
If I stayed 1 week, it would be empty before I left.
If I stayed 3 weeks, I'd have to go buy another and both jars would be empty by the time I left!
Nothing like Nutella on a warm broetschien (roll). To die for!!
Now they have the BIG jars at Costco and I don't dare go down that isle or I'm dead meat.
Some things never change!
(sorry for hijacking the thread but sometimes Nutella worship is necessary!)

I've never even tried it. I guess I'd better not! Sounds good!!!!
My grandmother used to make us sugar bread. A slice of WHITE bread with butter and then heavily sprinkled with SUGAR. No wonder I have issues!! Posted by 17hens (Member # 23747) on :
Oh my, we are a mess. I guess we'll have to stick with eggs! Posted by annier1071 (Member # 28977) on :
Back to the marshmallow thing? I have constant feeling like I am getting bladder infections but I am not.
I notice after I give myselfe the methylcolb injections I have buring for the two days inbetween shots. Would this marshmallow thing help?
Posted by 17hens (Member # 23747) on :
I have felt like that very often in the past few years - like I was getting a bladder infection. Feeling inflamed and swollen, very sore.
Used to be during ovulation and sometimes right before my period.
Then I got sick with lyme and it happened pretty frequently.
Know what's helped significantly? Two months of Parastroy!

I thought I was the only one who had butter and sugar on white bread. Of course, that was 40+ years ago. We used to also get a stick of sugar cane when we went grocery shopping. LOL
No wonder the teeth are so rotten.
Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :
apljack.. yeah.. for me it was about 50 yrs ago!!
annie... buy some marshmallow root and/or D-Mannose.
Posted by j_liz (Member # 20496) on :
You know what is worse than sugar on bread? Buttered bread with sweetened condensed milk poured on top. But it sure is yummy! Don't worry, I haven't had it for yrs., I sure would like to, though.
IC - do any of you take medication(s) for it? I take Elmiron and generic Vistaril. It really does the trick. I do want to get off all or most of my meds, but the thought of getting off this one scares me.
A LLND had me get off of it and start natural, whole food sups. I felt good for 6 mos. and found out that is how long it takes for the effects of the med to wear off. Somewhere along the line (is that the right expression?) I developed a Hunner's Ulcer and that is what scares me about getting off of it.
My uro-gyn treats my IC, she recommends D-mannose to keep my frequent bladder infections away, but it gives me diarrhea. I am now taking coconut oil (for many of it's benefits, mainly for my ulcerative colitis) and hope it will keep the infections away.
Btw, she asked me about Lyme disease and I gave her some sites to visit. At a later visit she told me many of her IC patients are getting diagnosed with Lyme.
liz
PS I take ceftin for my bladder infections and I usually herx while on it.
Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :
liz... I took Elmiron for awhile and maybe didn't stick with it long enough to get results. I used to take Vistaril with good results.
I no longer take anything for the IC.
Gee, I wish D-Mannose would give me diarrhea!! ha!
I believe a lot of IC patients have Lyme. Absolutely!

Go to www.christopherhobbs.com Click on herbal prescriber database See b for bladder in the ailments section Read about it there
Yes marshmallow root can help too but cornsilk is also specifically for urinary tract stuff. The two together, marshmallow and cornsilk, are even better.
Hey 17 Hens, yes you can take out the marshmallows and roast-em real good. Just be sure your chickens stay as far away as possible! Spread on the melted gooey, ooey 'mallow real thick. It's therapeutic. SLURP!!
(Read about mucillage in marshmallow and you will know what I am referring to. It soothes the linings of organs). A-HEE HEEEE HAAAAAAA!!!
Enjoy and have fun. And...I hope this helps!

Oohh god, now this is really getting out of control.
I read on Christopher Hobbs's website:
Corn silk, benefits: Urinary system
Plant description: "A long.... erect.....annual..."
Oh god. I just had to laugh! Sorry folks, I just couldn't resist! Hee heee!
Oh, another one. Read up about hydrangea root and buchu too.

Just want to chime in and say - Thanks for the chuckles!!
When my bladder acts up I take something called "Acid Soothe" It's meant for heartburn, I think - it's an herbal remedy made by Enzymedica and I get it at vitacost.
My bladder issues come and go (mostly gone now) depending on the treatment I'm on. When I'm really sensitive I can literally feel drops going into my bladder (when I'm really still like in church or in bed) My sister thinks I'm nuts but I swear that's what it feels like.

Continuing, I am still laughing. At a recent party nearby, an 8 year old boy asked "What is viagra? Viagra Falls?" Everybody laughed. He persisted:
"Was I right mom? Was I close?"
Well I am not going to claim that the tall, erect plant, corn, benefiting you-know-what will exactly be the next viagra....but i just had to mention this. It was just too funny!
Hee eheeeee!

I see that marshmallow root has been mentioned on a couple of other threads, it's got me interested. One mentioned doing 55 drops of it. I can't count that high, seriously! I get so easily distracted.
I read on vitacost that the drops are yucky and I read on the IC Network that the tea gives the best results. I wonder if the tea is yucky. I think the drops are because of alcohol.
Oh, Lymetoo, I think I saw you post that you ordered the capsules. Let me know if they work.

All these years I thought I was the only child that ate sugar sandwiches! I used brown sugar and butter - really yummy.
Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :
Suzy.. I never heard of anyone else either.. my grandmother had Alzheimer's by that time and I think it was the only thing she knew how to make!
liz.. yeah, my order is delayed .. may not get it until Monday (yes, capsules)
PS.. I think there are about 15 drops in each dropperful .. count them out once then go from there.
Posted by randibear (Member # 11290) on :
let's see.
i'll have to give the viagra to the two hippos who wear pajama jeans and live in the condom......
hhehehehh

Hahahaha!
Liz, marshmallow root tastes like nada. Except maybe like unflavored part-set gelatin water. It has a very neutral taste (as a tea) and sort of viscous like jello that is half-set, half liquid. That's how I would describe it. YOu can flavor it with any tea you enjoy, I usually use mint. It's not even really bad by itself if you can stand the thick gel.
I have a suspicion the gel is better than the capsules, not that capsules wouldn't help.
Corn silk may be useful too in urinary tract stuff.
