does anyone know what it means to have had a positive ELISA and then 'p42 AB WB' this was nearly 2 years ago, and it was deemed negative. I still have so many problems and was diagnosed 2 weeks a go with LUPUS. ( I don't have lupus symptoms just positive ana and elevated ds dna)( and a complete negative westen blot for lyme)...I finally saw an LLMD yesterday and he started me on doxy until lab results come back from quest. Do you think this "41" was significant in the past? sorry I'm sure you have all heard this typr of q'a before but I am new ot this and scared. thanks so much.

"positive ELISA"... If you had a positive ELISA then you most likely have Lyme. There are rarely false positives with the ELISA.

False negatives abound in ALL testing for Lyme.

Quest is not a very good lab and may miss it also.

So you had Band 41 show up (not 42..right?)....that is usually the first band to show up.

Read this:

Dr C's Western Blot explanation:

I am a little concerned that your "LLMD" even uses Quest. Most go straight to Igenex for labs.

thanks [Smile] He saud i could send it to Igenex if i wanted but quest accepts my insurance and this is only the beginning of the costs. I still have a Rheumy for my "lupus" whatever,,, . and yes it was band 41. thanks again♥

Just be cautious if your rheumy perscribes steroids for Lupus. Many on here have had positive ANA's. It shows that your immune system is compromised and Lyme could be contributing to that. Unless your LLMD approves do NOT take steroids.

I'm surprised they diagnosed Lupus with no symptoms of Lupus... The bloodwork being positive for Lupus is sometimes falsely positive (meaning that a certain percentage of healthy adults have the same positive bloodwork with no symptoms). Lyme is known to cause false positive ANA and possibly also ds-dna antibodies. I've got a Lupus diagnosis as well, but it is considered to be secondary to Lyme and will likely disappear when the Lyme is gone/under control.

i was surpised as well. i went to the rhueum bc my fam doc was thinking lyme. even the rheumy thought lyme but on a whim did the ana. he immediately ruled ouy lyme becuse the wb was neg but the tests for upus was positive. symptoms began november 20th 2009. it was a couple of days after a flu shot. originally thought it was guillian barre. i had tingling legs muscle fsiculations a sense of numbness, my left eye is chnagng vision,. everyone ssaid it was my anxiety and called me hypo. so i am finaaly being treated. is it bad that i am hoping for a positve result from my labs??? I just want a definitive answer for me and for EVERYONE else who thinks I am dramatic. you are all awesome. I appreciate all of you.

Before I knew what was wrong with me..I took the flu shot & got REALLY sick. Also took steroid shots in the spine because of the pain...those steroids went directly to my brain when I got into a aqua-massage machine. After I found the REAL answer then I realized WHY...

You said you had a positive ELISA - like Lymetoo said, that means positive. Regular docs don't understand that a negative test doesn't rule out Lyme. Yes, the shot could really mess you up.

If you qualify at all as low income, you can do the IGeneX testing at 75% off - www.lymetap.com

I don't think you're being dramatic - you're being real here with your concerns and symptoms. My opinion is that you have Lyme, based on your saying you got a positive ELISA.

You have to be patient with treatment. It's a marathon, not a sprint. I personally don't like to take too much, so as to keep the level of any herxing reduced and more tolerable. So I usually back down in any dosage if it's too much.

thanks for that info. I don't think we'll qualify and I have a very supportive family if I need extra money for costs, so I'd rather someone else who needed that more than me get it [Smile] I am going to wait and see what the quest results say and then I'll go from there. tests were on monday so I'm thinking anothe week or so.
