She has been sick almost 6 years. How long before she might "herx"? She is on ***mg Biaxin and ***mg Plaquenil daily.

I started my treatment with the same abx/dosage as your daughter and did not herx, but slowly got a little better. I plateaued after a few months and then added Doxy and slightly herxed.

What is "DD"?
I didn't herx on Biaxin. not everyone does. I just had slow improvement.

sorry, dd is dear daughter.
Looks like it's a moot point, biaxin is now unavailable, generic too. Now we have to find a new protocol before we are out in the next 48 hours. SO frustrating.

How old is your dd?? Could you try to get Biaxin XL (extended release)? Although it's not for younger kids.
You could try Zithromax or see if any other pharmacies have any biaxin left over.

I was just told that Biaxin is available and you have to pay out of pocket or try different pharmacies for generic (Clarythromycin). Hmmm....

I hear that Big Pharma wants to phase out some of their generics since THEY AREN'T MAKING ENOUGH MONEY ON THEM!!!!!

We were able to get extended release for now. She is struggling with more cognitive issues, groping for words, suddenly misspelling words she has never misspelled before, a hesitation reading aloud she never had before, missing syllables when speaking... I think we were prepared for the issues she already had to get worse, we definitely were not prepared for new issues.

I herxed IMMEDIATLY on Biaxen
I took my first dose of only 200 mg and I felt really out of it and exhausted. When i started ramping up to 500 mg I would pass out 2 hours after taking the medicine.
I herxed alot on it
It made a really big improvement in my lyme symptoms. Its a really good combination
As for the new symptoms. thats how herxing tends to be. you will get a worsening of your current symptoms OR a whole new set of symptoms you never had before

My daughter had the verbal, cognitive herx/issues that appeared a month into her initial treatment. She also went into a deep non speaking stage that lasted over a month and an half. With treatment these symptoms disappeared. She also could not read all of a sudden, which lasted about 8 months. That too was resolved with treatment.
Many new herx symptoms have surfaced all along the way and in hindsight most have been resolved and/or improved.
Its hard to have new symptoms develop when you are expecting others to go away. I feel your pain and confusion. I have the same every time it happens with my DD.
Stay strong and find inner strength, keep your Dr abreast of all issues and just know that many here have had the same experience and seen improvement.
