What are the best abx for bart? Have done Levaquin.

I heard Rifampin is a great abx that targets it. I would love to hear additional ones as well.

My only problem with Rifampin is it dramatically speeds up the metabolism of other abxs/meds. SO anything you take can have 50% or less efficancy.

Rifampin reduces Biaxin's effects by as much as 90% based on studies.

This is all done through the p450 metabolite(liver enzyme)

I was just given Rifampin to start hitting the Bart, and I am worrying about the issue canefan brings up. I am also on Biaxin and Ceftin.

90% efficacy reduction for Biaxin? Wow.

Does anyone have a link to studies showing this much Biaxin is lost by adding Rifampin?

I just started rifampin again a week ago (after a short time on it last year, long story)

Anyway, I've been quite shocked at the Bartonella herx.

Started Levaquin with it today, been building magnesium getting ready for it- I did Levaquin last year, too, but by itself-

currently on Bicillin 2x a week, and Samento. Did herbs for Bart last year, too.

Hope to keep on these 2 Bart antibiotics for awhile, (months, I guess) and then be done with it once and for all.

Thanks canefane.

I can't imagine doing Rifampin and Levaquin at the same time. I am having such a hard time with the Rifampin only.

I am a slow learner. I added the rifampin starting at the full dose, 600 mg, during a Tindamax pulse, and the herx took me down bad. I should have started the rifampin more slowly and not during a Tindi herx.

So I quit both the Tindi and rifampin for a couple of days to catch up with the detox.

I added back just rifampin today but only about 1/4 the dose, or 150 mg. In 20 minutes, I could feel the rifampin in my brain. It causes all sorts of neuro symptoms that rock off the charts.

So even with the 1/4 dose and skipping the Tindamax, I am having a reaction, same herx-like, out-of-control neuro issues.

Now I am not sure if the reaction to even the small dose of rifampin is a herx or If I am allergic.
