My 8yr old son has Lyme, Bart and likely Babesia

and Erichliosis, congentially infected. In

treatment with LLMD for 2 yrs. He recently ordered

a neurotransmitter test from Pharmasan Labs. My

son has huge frustration tolerance and rage issues

associated with the Bart. Hypo glycemia also plays

a role in his mood as does heat intolerance.

What role do neuro transmitters play in this.

All our doc said was it will tell him if he

needs some supplementation to support this.

Thanks.

Neurotransmitter tests are often with saliva.

IMO, the test is not a priority if on a tight budget. However, it could give you an "ah-ha" frame of reference, so to speak.

I needed no test to tell me what I already knew. IMO, it's mostly the toxicity of lyme, bartonella (and other infections) that cause the hyper-reactivity of neurons.

Nutrient deficiencies, too. And even exposure to gluten can cause all kinds of neuro-excitation.

MAGNESIUM is the very best helper to calm reactions of excitibilty. As to how to wake up the brain, that can be very tricky so the test may hold some value but, still, the underlying causes need to be managed.

Homeopathy or Bach Floral Remedies may do more to help with the emotional issues...would need to find a practitioner with experience using these types of remedies for emotional issues in children, though...

Also, GABA, Valarian or other calming supplements may be helpful.

Both my son and I had this test run. I found it valuable.

For my son we found out that he had an incredibly low Taurine level. Taurine has a calming influence on the brain. He would complain of being "wired but tired". That could be the lack of Taurine.

I found out I had adrenal insufficiency. And was low in a transmitter that helps me with energy and mood.

Here is a link that explains briefly some of the neurotransmitters. (I am not recommending the supplements sold here, just the info available). http://www.integrativepsychiatry.net/neurotransmitter.html

Best,
Karen

We had an LLMD run this test (urine) on my daughter a few years back-

It showed excessive amounts do some neurotransmitters happening (like dopamine and seratonin)

It recommended things like 5-HTP, or a supplement called Kavience (all by neuroscience)

None of the supplements made a difference, and it was expensive.

I would ask: how many children have you seen this test beneficial for, and with the recommended supplements?

I'm not saying it couldn't be a good piece of helpful information for your child. Keep in mind, mine was a complicated puzzle.

Thanks everyone for your thoughtful replies.

Lymetoo: It's a urine test

I will read all the links and google some more. You

have given me a good starting place. We just sent

off KPU test too. Pretty sure we are missing some

things. Need to relook at parasites, metals. He

also just tested positive for MARCONS so starting

abx nasal spray BEG. He is off other abx since

fall after 20 months on plus herbals.

So overwhelmed. Treating myself, daughter and

little guy. Hard to keep it all straight.
