- Neurotransmitter tests are often with saliva.
IMO, the test is not a priority if on a tight budget. However, it could give you an "ah-ha" frame of reference, so to speak.
I needed no test to tell me what I already knew. IMO, it's mostly the toxicity of lyme, bartonella (and other infections) that cause the hyper-reactivity of neurons.
Nutrient deficiencies, too. And even exposure to gluten can cause all kinds of neuro-excitation.
MAGNESIUM is the very best helper to calm reactions of excitibilty. As to how to wake up the brain, that can be very tricky so the test may hold some value but, still, the underlying causes need to be managed. -

Homeopathy or Bach Floral Remedies may do more to help with the emotional issues...would need to find a practitioner with experience using these types of remedies for emotional issues in children, though...
Also, GABA, Valarian or other calming supplements may be helpful.

Both my son and I had this test run. I found it valuable.
For my son we found out that he had an incredibly low Taurine level. Taurine has a calming influence on the brain. He would complain of being "wired but tired". That could be the lack of Taurine.
I found out I had adrenal insufficiency. And was low in a transmitter that helps me with energy and mood.
