I've had a hard time taking the antibiotics because of nausea. I've been discouraged as well because my doctor told me all my health problems (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, etc cannot be reversed.) My doctor said that if I don't take the medicine, I will have to deal with dementia.

I was given some cognitive testing and it came back presenile dementia. I have several categories that come back very low.

Is this something that is common? What type of dementia is common?

Are you seeing an LLMD?? Which meds were causing nausea? Doxy is horrible for that, but have you tried others??

There are many ways to skin a cat! (sorry, PETA)

Are you also treating possible yeast/candida? It can cause terrible brain fog and confusion.

I agree with Lymetoo. What antibiotics are you taking, in what dosage? Are you taking with or without food? Have you tried other antibiotics?

For Lyme patients, the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia are caused by the Lyme disease. So treating the Lyme should reduce or eliminate these. I speak from experience; I'm about 75% improved in these areas.

The brain fog and cognitive problems can be severe and debilitating, but I don't think that they are the same as true dementia. Neurolyme cam make one seem like they have dementia.

Also needed are treatment of other causes of fatigue, such as the adrenals, thyroid and HPA axis. Supportive medications and supplements can help.

There's no doubt that systemic candida needs to be addressed, along with adequate detoxing.

Usually a good LLMD will have many tools to try. Many of us are very sensitive to Rx medications, herbals and supplements. So being somewhat flexible as a doctor, and working with the responses and needs of the patient are critical in treating Lyme.

Best wishes.

Agreed with the above.

Our llmd uses minocycline because it is supposed to have excellent penetration into the blood-brain barrier.

It helped my husband at one point. Has terrible cognitive issues.

Yeast control is very important, too!

I'm only on 50mg Minocycline/day and it keeps the brain fog at bay.

Maybe you are very sensitive to meds.

Or take the antibiotics with food.

Agree with the others. It's time for you to find a new doctor-an LLMD.

I agree that the 'dementia' is probably not the same as the real deal, especially as , with me, it is so variable and has been that way for at least 20 years, so don't panic!

It doesn't sound as if you have a doctor who is very understanding, so maybe you should consider asking around for someone who is both knowledgable and compassionate.

Your Dr. has no bedside manner and is flat out wrong. All those symptoms can be reversed with treatment.
