HI -

Would anyone like to comment on their experience (good or bad) with Factive?

I know that some people had negative experiences.

I'm thinking of just a few pills. I took one pill and I could swear it cured a 5 year ear infection after having tried many different things.

Of course I'm paranoid about my tendons.

Strong stuff! Herxed like crazy for Bart then ruptured my Achilles' on day 5.

Load up on Mag and C before starting and STOP if you get any tendon twinges.

Mine ruptured with no warning.

Have you tried Cipro? It's the same class. I can take that with no tendon issues.

If I am not mistaken the difference between Factive and Cipro is an efflux pump prohibitor. Also if I am not mistaken, biofilm communities use efflux pumps to pump out antibiotics. Whatever the case, the Factive / Tind combo is what saved me. Saved me. Cipro didn't make a dent. The F/T combo took time, but it worked.

I tried Cipro for a long while. Subdued the Bart symptoms, but they eventually crept back after about 8 months. Moved on to Levaquin which wiped out all of my Bart sx but I stopped because of muscle pains. I went to Rifampin but stopped after 6 weeks, because it just doesn't work with any other drugs. I'm thinking about Factive as well. Is it stronger than Levaquin? Does Levaquin have a PPP?
Is it advisable to do this after having some muscle scares with Levaquin?

Wow. JMB how long were you on It?

Lymeboy - Yes factive is stronger than levaquin. I have the same experience that is why I am so nervous. I took Levaquin and got tendon issues, they resolved after about a year. After taking one factive I felt the same pain in my bicep.

I may just pulse the drug although I don't think my doc would go for that.

I couldnt tell the difference from the pain the meds in that family caused with a herx/die off.

I took Factive for about a year. I think it was one week on one week off. Never had tendon pain. I ran and biked the whole time. But I have not had joint or muscle pain with Lyme and company either.

One of my most helpful meds for treating bartonella symptoms by far. Works as well as IV levaquin.
