Does anyone know which is the best insurance company to cover chronic Lyme treatment, long-term antibiotics, testing, etc.
We are looking at Aetna, Cigna, or United Healthcare and are wondering what everyone's experience has been with these companies when it comes to Lyme.
Also, we are wondering which companies to avoid.
Thank you!

I THINK Aetna is the best of those three...but it really depends upon your plan. Each company (the one you work for) has a different plan for whichever ins company.

I'd look at the formularies to see if they cover expensive Lyme disease meds.
I wish I did this when I was looking for insurance last year.
The insurance I chose didn't cover bicillin shots (which got prescribed in January after I was locked into the plan).
I asked my Lyme doc the question at our last appointment since I need to pick too.
I was told Aetna and UHC were okay. Avoid Blue Shield.
Also, see if there are drug limits and deductibles.

I had UHC for yrs, never a problem then we had to switch to Cigna. They denied my IVIG, on them for 8yrs! My husband recently went to his HR dept and they took care of it...thank goodness. If the spouse/self works for a big company that has private ins coverage, go to HR
Wish I knew this info a yr ago.

UHC is what I've had and they've always covered everything.

Transamerica or Silverscript?
Do they cover Lyme meds?
Any experiences???
AARP (UHC) has been good in the past, but the copays have gotten insane.

I haven't had any trouble with Aetna but then again they don't cover any LLMDs. They have covered all meds.
