I have been on Dr. J's abx protocol for 2 years. I can withstand high doses of Mepron, Omnicef, Zithromax, Rifabutin, and anything else, but Minocin *kicks me to the curb*.
Just one day of the minocin (100mg, 2x/day) and I have to abort the whole week. Then do coffee enemas every day for a few days.
I have bad babesia, and in the past had anaplasma/erlichia (maybe still have it) and never officially tested positive for lyme. (which doesn't mean anything, of course).
After begging and pleading, and getting my local doctor to intervene, the minocin was reduced from M-F, to MWF.
After more pleading, it was reduced to 50mg 2x/day MWF, instead of 100mg 2x/day. Its still too much, and I have a terrible herx and feel like getting hit by a train (flu, heavy head pressure, debilitating exhaustion, just awful).

Maybe you are simply too sensitive to this drug? It made me dizzy and I didn't last long on it.

We can be drug-specific sensitive. I think the trick is to discover what it is we can handle. Btw, mino and doxy are related drugs.

Try another drug. I couldn't tolerate many, but Ceftin/cefuroxime was the best drug I could tolerate, and it also worked the best.

Yep, the dizziness was awful for me. Why the insistence that you stay on it? I've had bad reactions to a few meds and there is always another option.

I do fine of doxycline, but terrible on mino.
I couldn't get up off the floor, the body heaviness was so bad.

- Because minocycline is ototoxic (many Rx are) but in some unique ways, some people just can't do it at all (or for other reasons).
Be sure liver support is full on board to hopefully help protect ears, too (with ANY treatment protocol). Still, for some, minocycline is just not a good fit so another option is needed.
