Hi

Our son is becoming non-compliant due to stomach pain and nausea. First two years were fine.

What are some strategies beyond probiotics and taking with food that can help?!

Meds being taken: minocycline, tindamax (pulsed two days weekly), bactrim, azithromycin, alinia

Thanks!!

What about asking your doctor if he can cut out some of the meds and then introduce them back in slowly to see what he can tolerate. Sounds like he and his tummy could use a break.

Is he gluten-free? That can matter.

GINGER CAPSULES can help relieve nausea and dizziness. But it needs to be kept up at a therapeutic dose that only the capsules seem to provide. Although the tea can help a bit.

Take Ginger Capsules a couple hours away from Rx. It has some antioxidant properties and it may speed Rx through too fast if taken at the same time.

GINGER

There are some homeopathic sublingual pellets, too, that can ease discomfort instantly (great for flying).

Tabacum

Cocculus

QUINOA FLAKES are great to have on hand. Just add boiling water to a deep bowl or mug. Cover. Wait a minute and you have an emergency meal, of sorts for a tender tummy.

Surprisingly good ratio of protein & fat, too, so this is not going to adversely affect blood glucose.

Also:

DGL (search site below under Licorice),

Slippery Elm, Marshmallow Root powder

Explore other methods:

How to find an ILADS-educated LL:

N.D. (Naturopathic Doctor);

L.Ac. (Acupuncturist);

D.Ay. (Doctor of Ayurvedic Medicine);

D.O.M. (Doctor of Oriental Medicine);

Herbal Safety considerations & reference books; etc.

Links to many articles and books by holistic-minded LL doctors of various degrees who all have this basic approach in common:

Understanding of the importance of addressing the infection(s) fully head-on with specific measures from all corners of medicine;

knowing which supplements have direct impact, which are only support and which are both.

You can compare and contrast many approaches with links to articles, books, methods . . . .

digestive enzymes

rotate probiotics - different kinds have different strains so switching them up can help

also pulsing meds. one week off a month can give the stomach a break.

First- with all those antibiotics his stomach doesn't stand a chance! Talk to his doctor and tell him/her is is becoming noncompliant due to his stomach.

Second, this is going to sound so simple it is stupid.

Pepto Bismol. A couple of doses for one or two days, with a glass of water as a chaser, can help.

Plus, the bismuth in it kills Lyme bacteria too. It can give just the right amount of relief to help get past the misery.

Depending on his symptoms, another medication to consider is Donnatal.

lpkayak, was that "coffee"? Just making sure.

Thanks all for great leads. We were using ginger but didn't know it could have affects above.

I like simple stupid ideas!

Only suggestions that come to mind would be detox supplements such as liquid bentonite clay which works faster then chlorella for me for clearing out die off.

Also Alka Seltzer Gold has been helpful for many with stomach discomfort.

Tindamax was a very tough drug for me even being pulsed.

good luck

I've used licorice root tea to keep my stomach calm during a bad bout.

Lymenotlite posted this info about healing your gut. I've only heard part of the program but so far info is quite good.

My daughter could not stand abx either. We shifted for herbs and homeopathic and photons.

Quality of life improved at least 50 times.

We never had to come back to abx again.

Another thing that helped my stomach (pains for more than 3 decades, much before lyme and abx): chlorella.

my daughter still takes as soon as she feels tummy ache. We suspect heavy metals stuck to stomach through liver bile. Pain is extreme. Chlorella relieve pain in less than 30 minutes!!!

DGL is a great help.

I like the Enzymatic Therapy brand chewable "DGL Ultra", sugar free German chocolate flavor. (It's the mildest flavor). You only have to take 3 per day to get the max stomach protecting/ healing effect.

No matter what brand or flavor you get, chewable is best to get desired results. It needs to mix with your saliva to activate, then it coats, protects, and helps to heal your esophagus and stomach.

I found it really helped with the unrelenting nausea caused by my mepron combo and the horrible burning hole feeling in my stomach caused by a lot of oral antibiotics and herbs.

Nausea can be caused by Candida. Things like garlic (allimed), olive leaf extract, ginger, aloe vera help me a lot with the nausea. Be prepared to herx though.

Also prescript assist is a good probiotic that reduces nausea for me (where tons of sauerkraut, kefir and other lactic acid probiotics dont do anything).
