Can anyone tell me what's going on with my nails now? They've been discolored for a few months now but never this bad. And now suddenly these multiple small thin white lines surrounding the red areas.
(Note - I thought you meant nails scarred and edited it but edited it back to nails scared so no, I haven't edited anything here)

Chinese medicine says kidney liver ..some say mineral deficiecy...have you taken sulfa? Do you have vasculitis? Prayers and hugs..are you treating? This is what they call it but of course how to fix? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leukonychia Posted by HK (Member # 45290) on :
Nothing has been officially diagnosed yet bUT I do have suspected vascultitis and or connective tissue disease. Mineral deficient? Unsure, bUT I haven't eaten much of anything in the last 2 weeks
Thanks for responding (: gonna check out the link now !

I've had similar fingernail problems when my babesia was out of control (igenex IGM of 1280), and was so short of breath, my blood oxygen levels were very low.

Thanks for letting me know as I am not terribly worried anymore. Yes I have had air hunger since beginning zithromax a few days ago. But my bluish tinged thumb nail had been that way for awhile now. I also noticed a diagonal crease on right earlobe. I'm almost positive my heart is the problem. And no all these blood type hemorrhages on my nails. Idk but I'm praying

Yessss I felt much better when taking tumeric pills! I decided to try it a couple months ago after doing some research and heard very good things about it.
I ran out a couple weeks ago and haven't picked up a new bottle so maybe that's why I've been feeling worse. My veins weren't protruding as much either but again I didn't think it was the tumeric, but thinking back they were becoming less visible after about 2 weeks of taking it. I've been drinking tumeric tea to compensate but that doesn't seem to do anything. I will pick up some today!
Can curcumin be bought otc or is it prescription only?
And does anyone know what the best brands of tumeric/curcumin are?
Thanks

Thanks blue lyme (:

I use NOW brand curcumin from Swanson's Vitamins. Much easier on the stomach than turmeric.

It looks KPU /HPU problem: zinc deficiency!
Dr. K. says almost everyone with chronic lyme has this zinc problem. It's not ingesting zinc that corrects it, even though the body is starving for zinc...
Urine test can show some signs of the KPU problem.

Guys...my nail beds are now all red (like a cherry red almost) and the diagonal crease on my ear is more pronounced. I'm not just imagining these things either. It's getting harder to breathe too. I'm having signs..well have been having symptoms of multi organ failure, but I'm seriously considering heart failure now.
Posted by bluelyme (Member # 47170) on :
Omg ...how is profusion time ..like when u press on nail bed how long to refill?...what is bp ,heartrate...? Dont panic ..do you have arithmia / branch block on ekg...pm if you need ...you just were in er last week ya? C a n you feel your heart in your ears when plugged ...? How are you going to treat

Just guessing here - zinc deficiency re white marks? Mineral deficiency? You could try experimenting with a good multi-mineral. I used to drink the liquid ones that come from the Utah seabeds, with 72 minerals listed in them. That would make my nails go hard.

Have you taken minocycline? That can cause the bluish nail discolorations. I had that while taking mino and it is growing out now.

It looks like fungus. Sorry to disappoint you, but if the nail changes color (yellowish, pale, purple) and some lines appear, you need to go to the doctor and start treating the fungus. Especially if it happened to a toenail. However, I am not a doctor, just a nail technician. I went to manicure and pedicure techinicians school for this, and we learned a lot of information about nail health. For me, this is useful knowledge, and I have no prejudice against people with fungus or similar diseases; it doesn't mean you have poor hygiene habits. It can even come from too much stress or wearing tight shoes. When I see hints of fungus on a client's nails, I gently explain the problem and suggest that it be treated first

LeeSaymon,
Maybe you have some ideas for my nails. No doctor has been able to tell me why it is happening nor any treatment fix it permanently.
My nails resemble Terrys/Lindsays nails. I have non of the underlying conditions.
My big problem though is that I have a chronic condition of Onycholysis (https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/22903-onycholysis#symptoms-and-causes)
I have done all the treatments. It started with my pinkie 35 years ago and has gradually moved to all fingers except thumb. The only thing that keeps it in check is penlac which is used to treat fungus. Once i stop it the problem comes back.
However my nails have been cultured many times and nothing shows up.
Any ideas? Mineral/vitamin deficiencies. I take gobs of biotin.

Terv, have you tried Jublia which is also used to treat fungus? Jublia is working for my toenail fungus.
I believe Onycholysis can be an indicator of a thyroid problem as well as an iron deficiency.
Also a symptom of psoriasis.
I have read that dilute tree tea oil may help, but I know I don’t do well with essential oils and they must be diluted if they are to contact skin.
Posted by terv (Member # 29410) on :
No I have never tried Jublia. I will look it up.
I have a thyroid issue but it is being treated. I have iron overload so no problem there with the exception of I cant get my numbers in range.
They have treated it for psoriasis. I went to a new dermatologist and she gave me a script for steroid cream and wanted me to try it again. Problem is that I have to get my nails good enough to go without the penlac for 2 weeks.
She had a different theory as to why it is happening. I wish I could remember. Something like the nail is too thin. Looking at what she wants me to do, she mush think something is dry. lots of lotions/ointments to rub in.

Somewhat of an older thread, but I found HK's comments about taking turmeric of interest.
I just looked at my nails and they look good! They're clear. They used to have white ridge lines running down them.
I take a capsule of turmeric in the am and pm everyday and I'm betting it's the turmeric that has made my nails look better.
