I just got diagnosed with MCAS.

Considering having a copper iud again. Copper is inflammatory obviously. Yay or nay?

At this point for b/c I have no other options that are non-hormonal.

With MCAS, putting anything in your body that doesnt belong there is just asking for trouble.

Why would you even need this type of birth control?

Not related to your iud problem, but as an MCAS patient, you should perhaps read this article:

https://www.lymedisease.org/pills-hidden-ingredients/

Its a blog post about what it is in medication that is so harmful for MCAS patients. Its not always the active ingredient. Sometimes its the excipients. Just something to be aware of.

Yes, my LLMD explained that to me as well. Unfortunately it is alot of trial and error for many. Just adds more stress and frustration.

Also I wanted the copper iud because it's hormone-free.

I don't believe you add something to your body when you don't know much about what is causing your current health issues. I learned this lesson at 23 yrs old the hard way and was infertile afterwards.

In thyroid disease world copper is an issue. In Lyme & co world everything foreign you add to the sick body can be troublesome. What little immune system function we have, is even more troubled.

Here's one article to help you decide. There's a ton of info out there.

i would also vote no for the same reasons as given above - you are dealing with enough as it is at the moment and don't need anything else that might inflame or irritate your immune system

you might also consider barrier contraceptives as preferable in this instance, since its not really bottomed out if sufferers can transmit this organism or other co-infections sexually.
