A family member of mine recently was diagnosed with lymes disease and I want to make sure she is getting the best care possible. I have heard horror stories about cases that don't get the follow through they need. I'm also concerned about some of the side effects of the drugs and need help weighing the benefits of treating the disease with different techniques. Thanks!

- Welcome. I hope you get some specific names for a LYME specialist there (while some may say "lyme's" because that's what they've heard - usually not an expert who has studied it. That's one red flag, any doctor who says "lyme's" is likely no expert and that can be a good help as we sort out who is expert - there is no "s" in the word).

ANY positive bands on either the IgG or the IgM Western Blot can indicate CURRENT, active or persistent borellia infection, especially with classic symptoms, and history that may be of note.

- Your concern about Rx side effects is well understood. Certainly any Rx can have side effects and that lyme rarely travels alone and a full combination protocol is required to cover various infections,
most LLMDs (lyme literate MD) want their patients on liver support to help protect the liver but also help the treatment be better tolerated.
Remember that while some Rx can have harsh effects, lyme is one of the most neurotoxic infections there is and it can be devastating in so many ways, even fatal. So it has to be assertively addressed, along with other infections that go along with it.
However, liver support can make a world of difference in many ways.

- Just one word about Mayo Clinic (which is in the city you cite). No. Just "NO" regarding trying to seek any wisdom about lyme from Mayo. It's not to be found there, sadly. -
