Acute Lyme diagnosis AGAIN! BUT.......I am scheduled to see my first real llmd in a few weeks. But I did ask my pcp to start me on some abx in the meantime. both my neuro & my pcp are very understanding, they don't dismiss my problems at all, but I suspect they are burnt out with me.
So... I finally took all you advice and made my first appt. w/ a llmd. It seems weird because the llmd I'm going to is a cardiologist, not someone in the infectious disease field. I don't have any heart problems I'm aware of, but when I called the office the secretary confirmed she was a Lyme specialist.
Is is unusual for a llmd to be listed under a unrelated specialty?

Nearly all of them are under an "unrelated" specialty. All specialties are actually "related" .. aren't they? (since Lyme affects every part of our bodies)
There are only a very few infectious disease doctors treating Lyme long term.

Some IDSA doctors will say they are lyme specialists but are not, really. Most doctors tied to a university are not likely to be able to understand or even treat lyme properly.
Be sure you've had some referrals about this doctor from patients at area lyme support groups, too. Draw a 100 mile circle and contact all the lyme support groups who may have patients who have some interactions with this doctor.
WHY you need an ILADS "educated" or "minded" Lyme Literate doctor (whether MD or ND, or both) - starting with assessment / evaluation. -

- Now, if this doctor you are scheduled to see IS a proper "LL" one, great. The heart can be quite affected by lyme and it would be wonderful to have a cardiologist on your team. Some of the heart considerations:

I got this llmd's name from the LDA. I'm still waiting to hear back from ILDA on their recommendations, but thanks for the 100 mile tip!

- Be sure whichever organization you take advice is ILADS "minded" -- there are couple out there that are not and are affliated instead with the IDSA, which is not good for those with lyme. -
