My 5-year old daughter started presenting with bulls-eye rash yesterday. Pediatrician (not my fave) doesn't think it's Lyme. Thinks she just messed with mosquito bite, but it's a very pronounced bulls-eye. She had a blood test done today. Will have to wait for results

We live in northern VA, Vienna/Falls Church/Fairfax. But willing to travel for a good recommendation.

Welcome to Lymenet! PM sent for VA & PA.

The bull's-eye rash is definitive for Lyme. DO NOT wait for any test results.

If your useless pediatrician will not give your dear daughter antibiotics, then run, do not walk, to an Immediate Care Clinic and get some!! Time is of the essence!!

She needs to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!

They are far and few between, unfortunately. You need to go where they are. You're very lucky - there is a good one right there in Fairfax!

Most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi/topic/2/15615?#000005

When calling for an appointment, ask if they have any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in sooner to see a LLMD by doing this.

Check the online state Lyme groups at:
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/virginialyme

Maybe they can help.

The top LLMD, Dr.H, has written a new book entitled, "Why Can't I Get Better?". It is an excellent source of information.

Read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Get it at your local library or buy it used on Amazon.

Doctors do NOT want to diagnose or treat Lyme disease. Take photos!!! Get a date and/or a face in the pic if possible.

You may need to go to an Urgent Care because she needs immediate treatment. A blood test is useless right now as it will not show up.

A bullseye is DIAGNOSTIC of lyme.

Ask her pedi if she really wants to be responsible for NOT treating a bullseye.

I doubt anyone on the list I gave you would see your daughter right away, so the Urgent Care is an important resource. I pray they take it seriously.

The next battle will be ADEQUATE treatment.
