My doctor asked me what I do for exercise. I replied "the laundry". He thought I was kidding! But my husband added that for many years I couldn't even do that! And I have to do it in stages.

So the doc suggested I try a few min a day on a reclining bicycle. We are looking at them online but they are $$.

We both have LD so even carrying trash to the end of our long uphill driveway is nearly impossible for him now. We need to find help if we're going to stay here.

I hear you! I count laundry, dishes, even a sit down shower as exercise. I had surgeries in july and sept. Last week i stood for almost an hour in the kichen cutting up veggies for a red sauce. It was the first time i stood so long in a long time. I do the dishesin 3 minute shifts.

Im just happy i improved enough to see it.

My drive is short and flat but i missed taking trash out two wks in a row

Love your little signiture down there. Recently i was able to find a really good new gyn doc. I realized what i liked eas just that she looked me in the eye, listened to what i said and did not discount any of it. When i told her about a new study i was concerned about-she said she would look into it cuz it concerned her to.

I couldnt believe what i was hearing-but now i am just going to be greatful i found her

I totally hear ya, farraday! All of those things count as "exercise." Maybe you and your hubby can just begin increasing the amount of walking inside the house.

Also, look into "garage sale" type sites on Facebook. You might find exercise equipment very cheap!

That's a good idea. Maybe my kids can negotiate for us to buy one.
Yes, I walk indoors. 30 steps a cycle...I counted!
But shouldn't it get easier??? I guess I expected too much too soon from the rocephan.

FWIW, my longtime psychiatrist has found a number of patients with LD thanks to me. She even wants to help me write a book about my life. She thinks I can inspire people. My next visit to LLMD may include her...she wants to meet him and to learn more about our illnesses.

I also have a longtime pain doc who has been helping me for years. It's wonderful to find docs who get it, isn't it?

IMO, we don't need ANY fancy equipment that takes so much metal extracted by hard labor from the earth &/or petroleum that adds to pollution to capture, manufacture and dispose of -- and will wind up in a landfill for hundreds / thousands of years.

Such machines also often off-gas from the plastic / vinyl parts and even flame retardants that can be on the seat - and that's not good for anyone to be around.

You are better off putting the money toward good food or the best walking shoes, or a Tai Chi class.

Aerobic exercise is not good for most with infections. There are many other ways to move, more natural ways, too. Forget these doctors who think everyone has to be on a treadmill or even an angled bicycle.

Your doctor obviously knows nothing about what is going on inside your body, or what might be best for you. They make assumptions, dangerous and thoughtless assumptions - and judgments.

You know he's thinking that if you'd "just exercise" intently all would be just dandy.

Instead of asking what you do for exercise, he should have asked how it is for you to move and exert with daily activities, and what kind of movement might bring you enjoyment.

Or, if he really listened, he might have suggested that you get help with certain tasks at home so as not to strain yourself. But it seems he did not want to listen.

You TOLD him how hard is is for you and he ignores that and then tells you to spend big bucks for a machine that will not get any of the housework done -- and take away your energy to do the tasks that need to get done first.

I have to wonder just what good such a doctor could be to someone in your situation.

For some who are ill, getting therapeutic massage is the only way they can "exercise" and if that's what works for them, that's what works for them, at this point in time.
