I was recently diagnosed with Lyme. I have started treatment with antibiotics. I had no idea how bad I would feel. I'm a "herxing" fool. Does anyone out there relate to the chronic fatigue, low back and joint pain everywhere, unbelievable headaches, visual and hearing problems...not to mention no short term memory, mood swings etc. Is there really life after Lyme???

Hi Corestar, I am sorry you have Lyme but glad you are on abx.Hope you are seeing a good LLMD. Yes ,unfortunately this comes along with the whole battle.Herxing that is.

Hang in there, your med. is doing its'job and from the sound of it BIG time.

Expect this to happen..I have been herxing off and on now over a year.Everytime my meds. are changed...whammo! Herx!!

so, I quess with this stuff..time,time, patience and willpower will pull you thru...so will the fine folks here at Lymenet.

I have lived with sunglasses, ice packs, heating pads, gingerale, water, water, dark rooms, peace and quiet when I can(life w/children???)but humor too will help to pull you thru this stuff.

So,good luck, you will get better and better days ahead!Got to go,I'm sure someone else will be along to say hi and to help some more.I've had everthing you mentioned and am feeling MUCH BETTER! One year later and still treating, but happy for that.

My LLMD, Dr. C of MO, has his patients on antibiotics to take a short break at the first signs of herxing. By taking a day break when starting herxing, you can improve the symptoms of herxing. He has talked about this extensively in his great handouts he gives his patients. That's just another reason why he is so great, the handouts speak volumns.

Which include any of your basic Lyme symptoms and some symptoms you may not have experienced before.

As treepetrol said, just about everyone here on antibiotics has experienced on time or another.

If you'd like to learn more about folks and their herxing experiences, just hit that search key, up under Post New Topic, and use the keyword, herx or herxing, to search the Title Post (your search should and probably is defaulted to that anyway), and select your search in the Medical Questions Forum and you'll get a lot of great information.

Remember, the more you know, the more you can participate in your recovery...and, only you can do this for you. Good Luck!!!

Rosemary

Corestar, I sure hope you do call your docs office if the herxing gets too bad for you. For, to go off them, you will not loose ground, but, actually doing so will make the abx work better by you not having to go off them for a month or two, as I did when my herxing got so bad.

A day or a skipped dose or two is so much better in the long run, than, to have to go off the completely for a month or two. If the herxing gets bad, bed bad, then please, by all means, call your docs office and report this to him.

I would hate so see you loose ground with your treatment...course I am not a doctor nor did I stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Hi Rosemary,

Thanks for your help. I am getting great support from my LLMD. Your tips were good. I have read about pulsing off abx if you need to. I'm in the early stages of antibiotics because of having to wait six weeks to see the doc. I think I may have had Lyme for maybe a year or so. If I hadn't been very lucky I still wouldn't know!

Thanks so much for you encouragement. I'm new to this forum and it's a wonderful support network. Blessings to you!
