Well heck! I decided to retrieve my very old thread [dated January 2002!] and bring it back up. Unfortunately, it died! [shake]

SOOOO....could we start all over? Alot of newbies here need to tell us how they got their names! Oldies may join in too! [spinning smile]

Here's how the old thread began:

"OK, my curiosity is taking over....would you please tell us how you chose your screen name? Some are obvious [like Lymetoo...duh!] others are just downright interesting...so if you'd like to share, tell us about your name!"

I love this idea, Lymetoo, because as someone new, I've found myself imagining people as I read their posts.

In almost every case of generic kinds of names, I have ultimately ended up thinking the member was a different sex. Too funny...

My name's obvious. It's not my "real" name but it's a nickname even my friends use.

Andie

Mine is pretty boring. It's my nickname--a combo of my first name and last initial of my maiden name. I was called K.O. before I married, and my husband just begin to call me karieo. So once in a while, I use it, in his honor.

Well, I'll repost from the old post since people are still using this post. Phew!

When I was a child, I was severely abused in a crime ring. (My father and other paternal relatives were involved.) Years later, I began a long and arduous healing journey. I think of my true self, my hearty spirit, as the Phoenix, rising from the ashes. I have had negative associations with stars due to an abusive experience. I decided to reclaim "Star," as I think stars are beautiful. I put them together for Starphoenix. To me, this is who I am, really. Steph

Hey Lymetoo.. do you remembr me? it has been a while I was in PA but just moved to FL...
Many issues and I choose my screenname bc... I feel that I have been livin with lyme for many years and it remained a puzzle as to why my health was deteriorating and no MD (quack quack) (and only by mistake was a test run and found positive (imagine that I had a ELISA come back positive!!!)) could find an answer as to why .. I know why now. I am living proof that LD is a forever battle unless you stay on treatment and even then there is still little quality to life.. There needs to be a cure for this and fast!

Chroniccosmic, that's a neat story!!

I chose my name because it's the name of a state park right next to where I live; Pinchot Park in PA, south of Harrisburg. No doubt home to Borris and Myrtle Burgdorferi and their bazillion offspring (where is Thomas Parmkman??)...... Lots of people know it's also near Ski Roundtop as well + my first name.

And this has nothing to do with my name but I love horses, sheep and dogs.....Here's 2 of mine Pippin & Frodo

Weird like you said...the original post from 2002 wont come up! Too sad! It is sort of a living testament to the fact that many have come and gotten better and are GONE now.

Anyhow ---->> up for more replies!

I was in a tight spot and didnt want to use my real name when someone asked it and I glanced at my backpack which was made by "Trials End" and said "people call me trails." I lied, but it worked.

Several years later I started using it as my screen name. And I miss hiking very dearly.

This is a really nice thread where we can learn a little more about each other. [hi]

Andie, I had to laugh and agree with you when you mentioned that you get mixed up on the gender of some of the screenname. I too feel the same way sometimes.

As for me being "Moose", when I signed up to participate on this LymeFlash, I was required to come up with a name...ugh! My lyme brain was not too thrilled!

I didn't want to use the same screenname that I use for my email accounts which has been stuck with me for years.

Plus I had just finished chatting with my dad on IM who greeted me as "Hey Moose, what are you doing here?" My dad is probably the only one who calls me that, and being so lyme-brained I decided to use it. LOL!

Seriously, I love playing & working outdoors! Before I became too sick I worked as a recreation facilitator and have been very involved in hiking, backpacking, rockclimbing, canoeing, camping, orienteering, caving, initatives, high ropes course, disc golf, etc.

I also used to lead groups up in the Boundary Waters and I miss it badly! There is no place as beautiful and serene as the Great North, and of course, it's famous for MOOSE!

I love to hike. Every summer I would pick a different state and find a waterfall to hike to. Hence "Hiker" 53 is the number on the baseball cap I wore as a kid. I was (and still am) a sports fanatic.

Moose~ I beg to differ with you, but the Grand Canyon is equal to (or maybe better) than the Great North and the Boundary Waters. (Of course I haven't BEEN to the Great North or the Boudary Waters, but I can still say that the Canyon is better!) [Big Grin]

I hope you'll be back leading your groups soon, and I'll be back to leading mine. Should you ever hike in the Canyon, know that the rock layers can be remembered in this simple rhyme: Know The Canyon's History, Study Rocks Made By Time.

Or for the more mature audience: Kissing Takes Concentration, However, Some Require More Breath and Tongue.

My screen name is simple: Timaca is a compilation of the first two letters of my first, middle and last name. Kinda boring, but it works. [Wink]

Nice to see people like hiking and outdoors! I just recently realised that I am sick and that all my favourite activities, hiking, climbing, skiing, scooba-diving, biking, has both kept me going and most likely also bugged my lymebugs a bit too much. Ouch!

Oh, my screen name; Siggy, is just cause Sigrid is hard to pronounce in english and doesnt sound like anything either. I usually would use Sig in norway, but again being on an english board it would make people think I smoked. And I dont. [Big Grin]

What else? Oh yes, it is also what my friends call me, Sig or siggy just to show a sort of friendliness I guess. But, for some strange reason, they also occasionally add piggy; siggy-piggy. But again, it sounds a bit weird. [lol]

I had been reading on this board for a long time and was very impressed with the funny or inventive screen names that most of the people have here.

Therefore, I wanted to come up with a very original name also, before I would post for the first time. Unfortunately, my brain fog was as thick as pea soup for such a long time that I feared I would never be able to post if I kept waiting for a genial inspiration.

So I finally decided to use my real name - Gabriele. But all the Americans that I know pronounce it Gabrielle and my hubby, who is French, also calls me the French way - Gabrielle.

Now, that my brain is working again, I found some very good names which I'm using on other boards.

I'll join the boring crowd too: Bettyg.
Due to my recent HERX/health scare on 2-9-06, I have now shown my full name and city on my signature line.

A lot of you went to a lot of trouble trying to find me & have our local police come to my home to check up on me; see my post, I'M OK, POLICE just stopped to check on my health.

You folks knew my given first name and state; that's all but were determined to reach me.

Ann-Ohio called Troutscout in Iowa who had met met the year earlier at a lyme meeting with state legislators, and I had been corresponding privately w/Trout. So he knew my last name, address, and phone no.

So I'm not taking any chances; if I have another health scare & on the internet..WE HAVE ONE PHONE LINE ONLY, someone can contact our Ames police dept. again to check up on me.

Great thread. Tutu meaning "too" for lymetoo??

It's an easy answer. There were three of us all treating Lyme at the same time - Spouse, Son and Self. Now it's just me needs help. No longer have the Spouse (thank God for removing an alcoholic from my life) and Son benefited greatly from his treatment. If I could, I'd change my screen name. But...then I'd have to start all over. Many know me as Galsal or just Sal. My real name IS Sally btw.

What a great story. It reminds me of how most of us feel when talking to doctors, "Why must I explain Lyme Disease to this idiot???"

I must have been very foggy the day I signed up for Lymenet because I used my real name and had no creativity in me that day.

But on the CaliforniaLyme Yahoo Group, I'm WryWriter54 because I used to do a lot of comedy writing and stand-up comedy before Lyme - and I had to choose 54 because there were already lots of WryWriter names taken on Yahoo believe it or not! Since Lyme, I've had a hard time holding on to my sense of humor. Hopefully it will return.

Border collies are great dogs. Mine is not of the border collie variety. Mine is a rough collie (think Lassie) mix. I also had a full breed rough collie (named Lassie, lol) up till about 3 years ago, when I had to have her put to sleep at the age of 14. She had also been a shelter dog before I got her. She was a great dog, but we didn't bond as deeply as my collie mix. He seems to have gotten the best of both the collie in him and whatever he's mixed with. [Big Grin]

tdtid was a nick I used for a new email account within the first year I was ill.

I was going the G.P. route, not knowing what was wrong and in the first year, all they could do was drug me to the gills.

When I got off the meds and back through testing, you know...lupus?, M.S., fibro? ect, ect, ect.

I thought of what I loved and wasn't going to use my children's or husband's name so since I'm a major Broadway lover and use to get down there so often....

I felt "Man of LaMancha" song "To Dream the Impossible Dream", fit where I was feeling. I was dreaming of getting well.

So To Dream THE Impossible Dream came out as TDTID. I hope all our dreams that often feel impossible with this illness at times come true.

taken then i went to things I love dolphins-guess what- so i looked around the room and my husband was cleaning his blackpowder flintlock. Hah- I

thought I bet no one will have used that name so blackpowder

I am almost obsessed with Disturbed and don't think their music is heavy metal. It's more, I guess, hard rock/rock. But no, I don't think it would fit heavy metal so much. [Smile]

I must have missed this post before.

Improver= I tried several names and they were taken so heres the scoop.
I was in the auto service field for most of my adult life both fixing cars and managing techs. Once I became infected with lyme I slowly started to lose the ability to work the hours required so I lost my job.

I started a home improvement company (Improver) so I could make my own hours. This past July I had to disolve the business since I couldn't do any physical work.

The only problem with the name is everyone is uncertain of my gender and assumes I am a woman..lol

I AM A 30 Y/O MAN!!

Silly name but I am used to it.

PS if anyone ever needs auto service advice feel free to ask...

I.E. do I really need a fuel injection service every 10k like the dealer says.
Answer....NO, waste of money for you but commission for the svc advisor.

What a fun thread! My name isn't very inspired, I must admit. While registering here and trying to decide on a handle I was looking at my feet -- or, more accurately, what was ON my feet -- my favorite soft, big, fluffy, fuzzy pink slippers.

I was in such a bad way when I registered here -- couldn't hold a thought in my head, couldn't sequence things and had the 3-second memory of a goldfish. It's a miracle I was able to register.

You all have been incredibly kind and I'm so grateful to be here. I'm learning so very much!

Hugs,
Fuzzy

Mushroomman06, the 06 is there because the name had been taken.

I made my name Mushroomman because that is probly one of the places I came in contact with the dreaded tick. The prime time for the Moral Mushroom is also the prime time for ticks.

The Morals are found in the woods and sometimes in thick brush and along deer trails.

I grow up hunting mushrooms and so did my family, my grandpa told me about the tick and to be watchful. He lived to be 99 and could still mushroom hunt. The type of tick and Lyme Disease at that time is not the same tick and Lyme Disease that we have today.

Posted by Raiden Kitsune (Member # 14125) on :

It's the name I use pretty much everywhere online, to the point that you get about three hits if you look up my real name on google, but you can research half of my life looking up Raiden Kitsune. =P

A kitsune is a Japanese fox spirit, something of a trickster spirit like the coyote in Native American folklore...definitely more complex than that, but I doubt anyone wants me to really get started. Suffice to say, out of all the myths and legends from around the world, they're my favorite.

Raiden Kitsune was originally just a kitsune character I came up with for an online role playing game many years back. "Raiden" loosely translates to "Thunder and Lighting" in Japanese, and since the character in the game was a lightning elemental mage, it fit.

Long story short, I played the character a lot, met a lot of friends through it who never really stopping thinking of me as "Rai", even after meeting in real life, so I started using the name everywhere.

Years later, I still use the character in games, but he's evolved a lot and usually goes by a different name (Rai Sakoshi now), after realizing how stupid it sounded to have your species in your name (hey, I was 15 when I came up with him!), but I'm still Raiden Kitsune everywhere online. At this point, too many people in too many places know me as that to change it.

...that really isn't interesting enough to deserve that long a post, but I'm bored out of my mind, on lunch break at work.

My screen name came about in a sort of roundabout way.

I've been doing a lot of research to try to figure out what in the everlovin' blue-eyed world is going on with me, health-wise.

Every time something new pops up, I do more research. This has been going for a couple of years now.

So, I'm not just curious, I'm "curiouser".

Its also a from line in Alice in Wonderland. Alice says "Curiouser and Curiouser" after she drinks the potion and her body starts changing (growing).

I love penguins!

Well my first love was music and playing classical music and surrounded by guys wearing tuxedos for concerts - made me think of penguins..

Then I started getting obsessed with them - going to aquariums a lot and watching movies with penguins.

I only have 3 stuffed penguins at home - which is pretty good considering I had more before (gave to my niece/nephew). I have to hand wash them a lot because I know they are dust magnets and I have dust allergies!

There are 2 reasons behind my screen name:
1) I am a mom and I have 2 kids (biological).

2) I am a mom and all my kids' friends call me mom, so I am a mom 2 (all) kids, we call all these kids my non-biologicals.

It's nothing earth shattering or really clever like some of SN's I've seen.

penguingirl,
I have to share this story with you, you may not really care... but when I was a little girl, me and my little sister's absolute favorite movie was the Muppets Take Manhattan. (The penguins were both of our favorites in the movie). We probably watched it ten million times. I can still recite it word for word.

Anyways, at the end of the movie, Kermit and Piggy get married and all the muppets are there in the audience. Then the puppeteers threw the penguins into the air, and for some reason this was hilarious to both of us, with the penguins "jumping for joy". We promised each other if we ever got married, we would have the penguins at our wedding. we were just little kids at the time.

Flash forward to my wedding 5 years ago, with my baby sister as my maid of honor. I scoured the internet for penguins that resembled the ones from the muppets. I finally found them, and hid about 50 of them under the seats of the first few rows with very specific instructions to be shared with everyone in those rows but NOT my sister. So when we got to the part where we kissed in the wedding, the song from the movie was played, and everyone threw the penguins into the air. It was awesome!! She had no idea.

Anyways, it has nothing to do with this tread, but I wanted to share since you love penguins.

I guess I need to share my screen name, although it is probably obvious. There is so much confusion around Lyme, and around my illness for many years before finally getting the Lyme diagnosis, that I really feel like I am always having to search for the truth. It is actually quite sad, but true.

Searching - that is an awesome story! How cute!

I have to admit I can't remember much of the Muppets Take Manhattan movie - now you have inspired me to add that to my Netflix que. haha.

I've been kind of planning my dream wedding for awhile but ever since I got sick it has been on the backburner. Now, we just want to keep it small and simple - perhaps just a small ceremony at a church and a nice dinner with family and reaaaally close friends. But you know I still must include a penguin somewhere in the process.

[lol]

Thx for bringing up the thread again - a fun read -

Mine is from my upbringing - when my mom wanted to get the whole family out the door in a hurry, she'd say, "Ok, kids, quick like a bunny, 1-2-3!"

So when I found out I had Lyme, after searching for whatever was ailing me for 25 years, I felt ready to go with some activism! So I'm Robin123! Spoken low pitch 1, medium pitch 2, high pitch 3!

My name actually is put together from a few screen names on other boards.

I've always tho't silver, white gold platinum etc. was really pretty.

And I find wolves beautiful animals,so here we are!!!

BBL TxC' has dinner waiting.

Okeydokey, Here I be, I was privileged to see some wolves up fairly close a few years ago. At the Grizzly Discovery Center in Montana.

They were beautiful, and the info' was informative!

Now putting parts of combos of my other screen names together maybe wasn't so great in that I tend to get it confused. But I still enjoy it being my screen name.

The first of my health problems started several months after I had the bull's-eye rash that was dx'd as a brown recluse bite.

It started with what I thought was simply a bladder infection, but a wise old urologist I went to decided to look into it further. Besides finding old scars on my kidneys (I had a few kidney infections between ages 5-9), he found that my bladder wasn't emptying, which was causing the infection.

And it only got worse and worse as the years went by, although I stopped having infections. Probably due to the fact that I have to pee about every half hour (more or less), so nothing sits there for long! [Big Grin]

In other words, I'm always in the loo, it seems -- it's become a standing joke with my family. If I don't answer the phone when someone calls, when I do talk to them they'll say, "You were in the bathroom, right?"

And not realizing when I signed up here that certain medical "professionals" and others who don't take us seriously were calling us "lymies", I thought to poke a bit of fun at myself by combining the two into Lymieloo. At the time, they seemed to fit together so nicely!

Mine comes from being in the fitness industry (until this Lyme took me out of the industry).

This is such a great fun question!

My screen name was suppose to be Desert"Rose" but my lyme brain, at the time, could not remember "rose" so I used "wind" instead.

I use to train for half ironman triathlons listening to the song Desert Rose by Sting....so that is where the inspiration came from! DW
