Hi All

You all may have noticed but CitrusLyme (Lynn) has not been to LN in a long time --

The reason is she is Very Sick --
to sick to even post here--

Lynn is 19 yrs old and she lives in Canada --
She is a Good person that needs some help

It looks like when it comes to treating Lyme - Canada is even more screwed up than it is
in the US--

She has not been able to get any help there
at all

If she dose not get help Soon she is-
Not going to make it --

The only option she has left is to move to
the US and see if she can get help here--

Lynn asked me to write and ask if Anyone that Lives Close toa LLMD could give her a place
to stay for a few months--

Lynn is in Very bad shape and is going
to needs someone to perty much take care
of her -- for 2 months -
She needs someone to drive her to the
doctor ect --

Needless to say Lynn has little money after
being sick for so long --

She knows this is Alot to Ask of someone -
but she is out of options -
-and she has no other choice --

Lynns mom is going to sell there Home in
Canada--to raise the money they need --
and move to the US but it takes time that
Lynn dose not have --

I was going to have her move to Austin a few months ago--
so she could get some help here --

but my LLMD in Austin moved to California --
So there is not a LLMD in Austin anymore-
-Ouch

Lynn needs to live close to a LLMD
that can help her Soon --

Lynn has Lyme and Babs --
and needless to say the
doctors in Canada know Zero about treating
eather one -

She has the Lyme some what under control -
but the Babs is hammering her hard -and can not
get the correct meds to help her in canada--

Lynn is a tuff girl and Very Optimistic --
but her time is Running Out --

At one point I was as sick as Lynn is now--
But I was Lucky and found a LLMD at the last
moment and saved my life --

Im am 100% Sure that if I had not had that-
Lucky Break -I would be dead now --

Lynn needs some one to Help her
get that Lucky Break --

Lynn knows the treatment she is going to fallow
perty much --but she can not get a ducktor to
write her prescriptions for what she needs in Canada --

If someone that lives close to the Mexican border
could give her a place to stay- she could go to
Mexico and get the meds she needs --
So that would work too --

Lynns computer broke 3 weeks ago so she asked
to write this letter for her--

Lynns phone in Canada is -1- 416-226-6097 --

Her email is -- [email protected]
but her computer is broken so she has little access to the internet now --

You can PM me (Groovy2- #6304) and I can give
you more details about Lynns situation --

Also if anyone has any extra Mepron
Lynn sure could use it--
She has tried to get it from Bridges to Access
but because she lives in Canada
she can not get it --

Until Lynns mom sells there home -
they are very broke--
so if someone has some extra money they could spare to help her with traveling expenses --
it Sure would help her --

Lynn is so sick she is going to have to fly --
so if anyone has any extra Air Miles
they could give her
that would be a Great help too --

Also -- If anyone has any phone cards
with minutes left on them --she could
use them too --
She has to use phone cards to make long
distance phone calls out of Canada --

Lynn's user name on Lyme net is- Citruses --

I Sure Hope some one can help her -- Jay --

Anyone know of airlines that offer free flights for special situations with illness?

Seems like I saw something on this here...

Angel Flights does free flights, but is weather dependent and not sure how it would work across the border.

Hmmmm ..Wish I lived a bit closer to my LLMD...or knew someone in that city with the time and money to help. My apartment is too small for this ... but I have some ideas.

Groovy....Could you email me with Lynn's story and contact info??

[just send it in a PM]

The Godsent herb Artemisia annua would be superior to Mepron. It potentially targets multiple pathogens including Babs, Bbs, Bart and Ehrl.

Considering her situation, I am worried she couldn't tolerate the side effects of Mepron.

In contrast, A. annua has much less side effects.

In my opinion, she is very ill and needs medicine immediately.

Do me a favor, ask her or her mom if they would consider taking A. annua while seeking option help.

If so, please PM me the address and I'll order the herbs from the web and ask them to directly send it to her. She'll get the herbs in a week or so.

I feel very sorry for her and her mom.

I almost sell my house when I was very ill and in desperate.

But, in retrospect, I am glad that I didn't.

Simply there is no guaranty that they will cure you even if you give them all the wealth the world has.

... and I don't think any doc including "LLMD" knows much than us, so why waste the money?

My LLMD (Dr. D.) sees patients very near my home one day a week. I could pick Lynn up at the Boston airport and get her there. I might be able to give her some of my frequent flyer miles.

My apartment is really small though and I'm not sure I could continue getting well if she were here too for more than a few days. She could stay briefly if no other options are found. Do any of the other Boston area people have room in their homes?

I have some phone cards I can send her. Please pm me info about where to send them.

I'm glad you're helping, groovy.

Groovy...has Lynn been using Canlyme.com? They seem to have a pretty good suport-group and mabey some ideas about resorces.Im suprised that its hard to get Med. suport in Canada...I thought they had better social health service than the U.S.A...what gives? Why is she not in a hospital now and why is she in such bad shape? [confused] Alan

Thereminator - Whereminator [Big Grin]

The wait on socialized programs can be so long people have died waiting for treatments.

Speaking specifically here of Irish and English programs which I have some knowledge of, and I wouldn't think the Canadian program is any better in that regard.

Yes it is a shame so many are under insured or have no insurance, but I would bet my last dollar more Amercians would be in an uproar if they had to wait more than they do now to see doctors.

Along with the phone cards could she use a gift certificate to www.vitacost.com

or www.iherb.com

or even http://www.rain-tree.com/

This way she could order whatever she needs.

I checked and the sites the have 1-800 numbers for ordering over the phone too. Since her computers broken.

What do ya think?

Hi, it's hard to know what to say when a friend is in such a desperate situation. But the first year I was sick and could not get any kind of diagnosis, my acne medication, doxycycline, literally kept me alive. It's under $50 per month. I had undiagnosed Lyme, bartonella and babesia--and of course, really did have acne (yes, really!). It also would have been possible to get minocycline from a dermatologist, although this drug can have some intolerable side effects.

When my mepron failed after a year and a half of treatment, I took 300 to 600 mg of Nutricology artemisinin per day. That's $20 per bottle. It's still the gold standard to test whether every sniffle or cough means the babesia has come back. While it is only a temporary suppressant, it can make a major difference between being functional and disabled. She might also want to take extra B complex, especially folic acid.

Malaria drugs are available at Canadian travel doctors and travel clinics. If your friend is truly desperate, and has people around her to monitor her condition, one possibility to consider is quinine. As you know, I'm not a doctor or medical professional in any way, and add the further disclaimer that quinine always causes some side effects, and overdose is a real issue. But for someone in a life threatening situation, it might be far more effective than mepron--of course, that is only one person's opinion.

FWIW,

bactrim
before mepron, i believe bactrim(sulfamethoxazole + trimethoprim(?)) was used, but verify this statement. sulfamethoxazole is a sulfa drug, but trimethoprim is not a sulfa drug.

if this was the case, this may work with artemesia, but one first needs to know if these two would be compatible.

berberine
the merck index, 1996 edition, lists this as an anti-malarial. while i've seen no proof of its efficacy against babesia, it seems to me worth trying, since anti-malarial medicines are at least one model for anti-babesial medicines.

this is an ingredient in the herb, golden seal(hydrastis candensis).
at least one highly probable, functional part of the molecular structure of berberine is the same as that found in the molecular structures of the active ingredients found in artemesia annua. this is a type of peroxide formation at the one end of the molecule.

caveat:
i recall from somewhere that this can affect heart functioning, so do search on this, esp. if considering high dose of this.

used by naturopaths.
its sold to healthcare professionals as berberine sulfate.

good luck,
prayer sent for best of outcomes.

Lynn is a very sweet kind young woman

who is very sick with lyme and babs

If anyone would like to send her a gift certificate to vitacost you can pm me anytime

No matter how small it would sure make a difference.

She hopefully will be able to stay with a friend in the US and see a LLMD if she can get enough flyer miles.

I have been in contact with her via email. She is not well, but alittle more stable and so grateful for all the support she is getting.

I am offering my home for her stay in but I cant drive her to doc appoints. So I dont know how helpful this offer really is. I dont live very close to any LLMDs. I live about 2 hours from the bay area.

If there are any bay area folks who might be able to put lynn up while she sees the doc (the day before and of and maybe after? and then she could stay with me in the in between times for a few weeks that would be great!

We are looking at public transportation to get her where she needs to be.

Her computer is still not working.

Lyne still needs our support.

She needs donations still so she can come up with air fare to see a LLMD here in the US.

She could also use a gift certificate to vitacost.

Lets all keep her in our prayers and what little you can spare will go a long way.

Blessings

Canada is a very large country. Could you tell us which province she lives in? That might make it easier to make some plans.

Jim Wilson, president of the Canadian Lyme Disease Foundation at
250-768-0978
www.canlyme.org
offered to talk to Lynn. That would be a good place to start.
