My Doctor wants to put me on IV Claforan. Is this better than Rocephin has anyone had any success with Claforan. I need Patient Assistance Program for IV. I can't afford it. I tried calling PPA but they need manufacturer or what is another name for Claforan that PPA can identify with?
How much does a nursing agency charge to put in IV? I do not have money or insurance. What do u do? I'm debilitated.

I used it back in 03 or 04???? It is a 'safened' form of rochephin,,,same thing BUT it is safer for the gall bladder.
Think back then it was like 300 bucks a day,not real sure. In MY opinion,,,if you dont have the money for the expensive stuff,'Clafran' then common rochepin would be the way to go with GOOD gallbaldder protection,,like actigall and anything else that would help that.
How long are you going to get that?? 10-14 days is hardly WORTH the effort,in my thinking. Canm YOU get them to approve a long term deal??
Insurance cut me off JUST when I turned the corner and it started working. So IF you can get rocephin approved for a MUCH longer time cause of cost,,,go THAT way.
I know rochephin has come down in cost ALOT since I had it!! NOW I dont have insurance or the money to buy it out of pocket so there goes that idea of getting well!!
Thats all I know about it,,,hope whatever works for you!!! Better be sure of who pays what and costs involved or it can get REAL costly real fast!!! They LIKE to sue or send to collections,,they dont care how sick we are they just want MONEY!!! Hopefull for YOU--just don--

Claforan is gentle on the gallbladder. needymeds.com has them by brand name too-!! Here, looked it up for you- DARN!!! Not on any lists for now!!! Neither Rocephin or Claforan- Sorry- Call PPA- they may be able to help- the non-brand name for Claforan is Cefotaxime Sodium. But you CAN get IV Rocephin very cheaply these days- it is off patent and it's name is IV Ceftriaxone. Best wishes, Sarah

Hi cuddles - love the name. Anyway, I had to respond to your question about claforan because I had a bad experience with it.
It was Christmas Eve 2004 and I had been on IV claforan for about 3-4 weeks. That night, after administering the drug, I felt like all my bones were breaking in my body.
I had been sick with a fever for several days prior to this and was screaming in agony.
My husband called the ambulance and they ran blood tests at the ER. I was delirious.
Suddenly a nurse came into my ER room with a mask on and said I'd be admitted. I had almost no white blood cell count.
The fever I'd been experiencing is called a "neutropenic fever".
I spent Christmas day and 3 more days in the hospital sicker than I've ever been. They took me for x-rays and I briefly lost consciousness and stopped breathing. I revived on my own and fainted on the way back to my room.
The only time I've ever fainted in my life.
Low WBC is a rare side effect of claforan. It makes you very susceptible to opportunistic infections. My kids had a cold and it was their cold virus that nearly killed me.
So, this is what happened to ME with IV claforan. It took several months to recover. But like I said before, it's supposed to be a rare side effect.
