Lou......

Resting today.

LymeToo.....
27th..No walking for me today. Will do so tomorrow. Hope the weather is OK!
28th..Walked TWO MILES today!!! Since I lost weight, it's making it even easier to walk .. and I wasn't even overweight before!!
So I did 8 laps in 37 minutes! 2 miles!
Total for TuTu.... 6 MILES!!
Cathy.....
27th..I had two days that I was up and moving...probably walked a good half hour both days, but today, I'm so tired I can't see straight.
2nd....Still very run down, but hey...I got in a 15 minute walk today
Don.....Concerned about you Don. Sending good thoughts your way.
KAM.....
Sunday am.....est 1 hour outing in power chair to Rodeo Grounds.
Sunday pm....10 min loop in lupine woods
Monday pm....10 min loop in woods
Tuesday am....water therapy
6 two min exercises....
a few laps of breast stroke and side stroke...brain was going so had to quit...
Tuesday pm...10 min loop in forest...not a fun walk this time, but glad I was there and did it.
Wednesday pm...10 min loop in forest with a little dry creek exploring. Looking forward to a walk when I feel "normal" Walks have been tough this week.

Friday am...40 to 60 min I think. Walked further than I have so far on the National Forest Trail..
Friday pm...10 min loop

RECAP of week 2 of newbies (for lack of a better word)
MTREE......
4/27-5/3
Tough week for me with leg/hip nerve pain.. ..but because of all of you I PUSHED....
total for the week... 4.75....
yesturday I actually walked a mile which is huge because I've only been making it 3/4 everyday and that has been tough....
I'm ready for this next week.... bring on the pain....just glad I have you all to inspire me....thanks
LARKSPUR>>>>>
Haven't walked yet this week - bad couple of days- am starting back on antibiotics (shots) on Fri.
But - I did go get my haircut today (by myself) and wore clothes that did not resemble pajamas, so I feel I accomplished something
(getting ones hair cut with lyme disease is not something to take for granted)
TRACY.......
(Need clarification here..can you help me out Tracy? Noticed I have two entries on the 30th. Most likely need another date on one of these.)
30th..2 1/2 miles today. First walk this week 30th..1 mile today. 2nd...1 mile today.
I am struggling a lot with fatigue, exhaustion, very very painful knees suddenly, and finger joints.
I am really having a hard time this week with walking; my shins feel like they are being stabbed with knives as I walk.
ALI>>>>>
Am I in the right place? I am not walking, but I have my sights there. I've been in a w/c for 1 1/2 yrs. I was on a walker before. I was stubborn and resisted assistance and kept breaking things.
I stand once a week with PT, he assists, and realized that wasn't enough. I hired a man trained by PT to come 2 more times during the week to help. 2 weeks ago all I could do was 3 standing attempts in the hour. Now I am up to 8 and I do much of the stretching out to stand that the PT used to do.
I also got a standing frame and try to stand 1 hr a day.
Tim came and I stood 8 times. My left leg feels very engaged, but my right feels like it is just there. It isn't quite sure what to do yet. I try to sway back and forth to simulate walking.
I have a skiing appt for next winter, o have to keep going.
Something new I can do as of last night in bed. I CAN TURN OVER ON MY STOMACH. It has been years that I have not been able to do it. That is going to be important for stretching out tight places that have contracted in the wheelchair.
27th...I rode my scooter for about an hour.
3rd...I just couldn't post for the last week. It was rough. More emotionally rough and then that goes right to my body.
Today I went on my scooter for a really long loop with our 2 dogs. I did range of motion for my knees and it was pretty limited since they had been immobilized all week. I am preparing for the new therecycle (www.therecycle.com).
I continue to lie on my stomach daily now that I can.

I am going to try to make it out there today. I may have to wait until my husband gets home, so he can walk me, but I think I'm up for it at the moment...will check back in later...

Monday....50 min in the forest. With 4 short breathers and finished off a 16 oz of bottled water while on the trail.
The good news is that I was walking "normal" and pacing myself.
Inclines were a struggle but they are short and few.
Wondering if I will be here next winter. I learned the trail follows the creek for the most part.
It is dry now, but I would like to follow it next winter. Getting across the creek will be the tricky part.

I did about 60 min today with a break at the library.
I still overdid it a bit...oh well

Thanks Larkspur. Yep. Pacing ourselves is tricky business.
Able to sit upright in the camp chair for about 15 to 20 min this am.
Drove out the healing ranch and had a beautiful mountain view while Rosie was able to be off leash in a safe area.
Thankful for the car that got me there and for the ability to drive out there and that it was close by.
This mornings outing was about an hour I think. 20 min drive 20 min sitting upright 20 min home.
Not sure.
I seem to be OK if I slouch and am moving if I keep it under an hour and a half on a good day, but slouching and sitting still doesn't last for long. 20 min is about my limit.

Tuesday am...
Water therapy
7 two min exercises twice
Plus
in between sets, I did about 3 to 5 strokes of sidestroke and breast stroke which is more difficult than exercises as it is multi tasking.
Able to get gas in car afterwards although I was well aware I was not "normal"
And able to vacuum front seats of car.
Down for the count now.
Good morning

I average 4 miles a day, I take a 3 mile walk after lunch, and 1 mile to walk my dogs at night. So 28 miles a week, that wasn't the case 6 months ago. I still can't wait to play racquetball regularly, I use to play about 12 hours a week. But now that I've been walking I can't see giving that up either. Walking gets me outside, it's meditative. However, I'd love to share stories with all of you as we walk together.

Hey Bob! Welcome!
4 miles a day! Impressive. Glad to have you. I'll have to try to catch up with you over the next month.
I'm currently walking 1.75 - 2.5 miles a day. Perhaps it's time to increase. Don't look over your shoulder, Bob . . . you might see me coming in the distance.

I had no idea there were so many different specialist until I went to Samsun Clinic in Santa Barbara and read the list of specialist while I was trying to find the one I was supposed to see.
So many that I had never even heard about or had a clue what they dealt with.
Wednesday....10 min loop in forest. Even ran down the incline for a few steps....sort of...brain and legs still not "normal" but I was moving fast enough to put a bee in Rosie's bonnet.
body and legs and knees hurting now, but that is "normal"
This thread helped me get up and out this am and give it a try.

3 miles at lunch today, great day for it. Sun was high in the sky. The path I taking is lightly wooded. I'll see red foxes on occasion, some deer and lots of birds. I meditate quite often when I walk there. I'm on the sixth floor I usually take the stairs after a walk. Today I ran up the stairs.
When I got home another mile as my two weiner dogs pretended to be sled dogs.

OK Bob. I thought I had you beat yesterday. I walked 3.25 miles trying to catch up to you. And then I read that you went 4 miles. So, next week, I will try harder to catch you.
Another 1.5 miles this morning. That may be it for today. My knees are screaming at me! We'll see. Maybe I can get a stroll in this evening.
Bob, I also meditate. It is vital to my healing.
Glad to see so many walkers out there.

Hi all!
Didn't walk Wednesday but me and Rocky did our 1 and a half mile today. Beautiful this a.m. still cool and everything so green.
Mtree...broke right arm couple weeks ago in self defense class. And Rocky is my black lab 4-legged motivater.
If I didn't have Rocky wouldn't be walking so much. If I don't walk him for a couple of days he'll actually start to whine.

Rosie and I went to the dog park this am. I think we were there for an hour. Not sure actually.
Just know that when I tried to get up and walk out I was very stiff and sore. sitting is still an obstacle.
A bird watcher was there. Lots of birds at the dog park this am.
She said that we have a two week window and then the birds will be gone that are flying through.

Rosie Look a LIke
Standard Poodle
But, I keep Rosie's hair clipped shorter. I like this look but it is not practical for a working dog and is expensive. $125.00 at the groomers.
I recently went to a groomer who is helping me learn how to groom Rosie myself as even a whatever cut she gets is expensive. It is a lot of work to keep a standard poodle groomed.
But, no shedding which cuts down on the vacuuming in the home which is good so it balances out.

Thursday evening...
Took a drive in search of water again and to try and run away from feeling lousy all day.
On my 6th excedrin.
Ended up 20 miles outside of town. This is the furtherest I have driven since moving here two and a half years ago.
It was not a stressful drive like I use to before lyme. I enjoyed getting in the car and driving...especially in such beautiful scenery.
I was driving through the pines and mountains.
Rosie is curle up right next to me right now. She really does this. She usually is at the foot of my bed.
She gets right next to my face when I have that sinking feeling.
It helps.
I was able to find a campground with a creek...the one I was looking for.
Able to go down to the creek although my legs were weak and balance was poor.
It was a rocky territory....that kind that takes balance.
Beautiful rocks.
Not sure how long I was on my feet or near the creek. I did get there and then sit down on a boulder for a bit.
Looking forward to being out that way again when I am having a good day and stronger.
The good news is that in the past I would not have been able to eat or get out of bed when I was having this head stuff.
So, it is getting better...still don't like it.

Hi All! 2.25 miles this morning and weight training. The weight training is really tough, but I am beginning to see signs of improvement.
I have heard from Andie. She is a bit under the weather -- but still working and hanging in there. Working is taking most of her energy, so she is not walking. She said to tell all you walkers that she is thinking of you and hopes to be back walking soon.
Tracy -- So sorry that you are herxing and cannot walk. Maybe you can get in a short stroll next week.
Kam -- You are a miracle in motion this week. More improvement. I'm so happy for you.
Tree -- I know what you mean by the pain -- I keep trying to push through it. Some days it is easier than others.
Wolfie -- OUCH! And still walking. What a trooper!
And Larkspur is racking up the walking time.
Lymie -- I'm sure I am going to have to run to keep up with you! But I'm trying!
TuTu -- still raining?
And Cathy -- We miss you. And hope you are feeling better.
Tree -- You asked about dogs. I do not have a dog anymore. But there is a cat and a ferret in the house. And when I feel the need for some doggie time, I go get my daughter's dog and keep her for the weekend. Her dog is Evita, the Akita. (anyone seen the musical rent?) 75 pounds of pure fun!
Keep walking!!

I'll post there pictures early next week. There names are Scarlet and Sam, Scarlet a red mini 10 years old, and Sam is a red mini about 8 years. They are really good dogs in very good shape. Yesterday it rained so I missed my lunch time walk but walked about a mile last night. I think I'll just get wet today and walk anyways at lunch.

I also had this thought about where to observe birds.
When I am up to walking about, I will head over to the fish hatchery.
I also need to be doing well enough to drive that far. I think it is about 15 miles out of town on a highway. The fast movement usually is difficult for me.
Got behind a slow moving truck for a while yesterday and that helped.
it may not be so busy in the early morning either which would help
I bet early am or evening...if they are open then would be a good time to watch the birds.

Kam, I have two feeders near my front porch, and I like to sit and just watch the birds. Especially in the early morning. There is a lot of activity then. The orioles should be arriving within the next month. The males are so beautiful!
I also have a nest of purple finches in a hanging plant on the porch. There are 4 tiny eggs in the nest. My grandson and I are waiting for hatching day!
I probably get 20 different varieties of birds. My grandma taught me about birds. Good memories.

Birds, ah yes! My mother was a bird freak and I am too!
Every time I see a bird or beautiful flowers, I think of her!
I'm afraid to get a bird feeder because I don't want to attract mice or ticks [on the mice or birds].. am I too paranoid?
At least I get to hear and see more birds where I am now.
Walked ONE MILE today!!

Lymetoo you ROCK!
I walked 3 miles at lunch in the rain with an umbrella. I still got wet, but it was still worth it. I saws tons of birds, on the path a bird was dipping its beak for a drink and could care less about me until I got within 4 feet took off and came right back for more to drink. It was kind of funny.
Walked another mile with just one of the wieners, the other didn't want to go. My son just got back from college and she decided that was a better use of her time.

Wow....I am just so far behind. I've lurked around the boards, but have to admit that I have not been thinking as clearly as I would like this week, so haven't done all that much posting.
Even more, I wasn't getting in much walking, so I didn't want to come here YET AGAIN and say, "Still not walking", so I've just been laying low.
But I did get up and about today. Some for our NH support group with other lyme patients went to see the Governor sign a prolamation for May being Lyme Awareness month in the state of New Hampshire.
I had said I was going, even if it would mean a cane, walker or whatever, but I got from where we parked the car, down two city blocks to the state house on my own. Did need assisantance up and down the stairs and then did the elevator inside, but I WAS moving.
Then walked the two city blocks back. Had a limp going back and kept getting that shock feeling going down to two of my middle toes in my left leg. Walking sometimes aggravates this shock.
Anyone else get that? If so, what do you do to ease it up. I get it sometimes while sleeping, so don't think it's entirely about walking but when it happens and you are walking, it really jolts.
