On Monday from 11:00 am - Noon EST the Diane Rehm show will have a live broadcast about the lyme controversy with Pamela Weintraub, Dr. Samuel Shor, internist and assoc. clinical professor at George Washington University and Phillip Baker, director of American Lyme Disease ***. and former project officer of lyme studies at National Institute of Allergies and Infectious diseases.
The show airs on many NPR stations and Sirius satallite radio. look up the Diane Rehm Show for stations. Her site also offers podcasts.

The time may vary. I got a notice saying 10 ET. It may not be on all NPR stations, though, but it may be accessible through NPR's web site to listen to file audio after the program.
EDIT: According to Marc On the Media the WAMU site is wrong, the show will air at 10:00 am EST NOT 11:00am

That is not going to convince anyone who is not familiar with the issue. Hopefully they diplomatically dissect his reasoning to show it's flaws.

There is, Dr. Samuel Shor, He is a ILADS, LLMD, treating physician. I will not say much more then that because of the sensitivity of talking about doctors, but do not worry, he is very good.
This interview is stacked three to one, three people who believe in chronic Lyme to one person who I do not think believes in chronic Lyme, Dr. Philip Baker.

I hate to be negative but the interview was kind of a mess. I do not think anyone not familiar with all the background of the controversy will have any idea what was going on. It as very disjointed conversation jumping all over the place.
But on a positive note hopefully some people listening have some idea of the controversy going on or maybe someone suffering undiagnosed will be able to get properly diagnosed.

i posted my response in medical, but basically i agree with you llyme. it was obvious she didn't believe in lyme and it showed.
while the intent of the program was excellent and i applaud the participants, i didn't care for her presentation.

I would not say she does not believe in Lyme, she is suffering from chronic illness herself. She seemed overwhelmed and confused by it all.
I just think she did little or no research before the interview. She had no introduction to the discussion, no background on the controversy, no explanation of what acute and chronic lyme is, did not ask the proper questions on the difference between acute and chronic lyme, no explanation of the two groups (IDSA & ILADS), no numbers on how many people are sick, did not ask what all the symptoms are.
This is the problem we are dealing with most people who are not sick with Lyme are completely overwhelmed by the complexity of this disease when you try and explain it to them.

i've never listened to diane before and i didn't know about her voice problem either.
i think diane did OUTSTANDING JOB! she kept everyone on subject instead of any long, drawn-out rambling like phil started a couple of times.
she was quick to say she didn't understand and kept asking for user-friendly language she could understand.
PAM, KATHY FOWLER, & DR. SHOR did a wonderful job and expanding on things. i listened to it live, but my connection kept going OFF so i would have to keep hitting play to hear it.
tonight i listened to all 49:50 minutes of it again, and heard what was missed earlier.
phil was the perfect DUCK! diane had great questions for all, and SHE DID HER HOMEWORK.
if anyone has an email address i can write a thank you too, i'd appreciate it. big thanks xox

When I try to talk to people about lyme, it is a puzzle knowing where to start and stop. A person could talk about it for days and not say everything. So, expectations that this could all fit into an hour-long program are unrealistic

All exposure we get about lyme to others is a plus. I liked the broadcast a great deal. I think Diane did her homework, I think she had some very specific points and she tried to have the participants stick to them. The points are what it is and what is the controversy. I think it rang pretty clear from Dr. Baker, he doesn't feel we know enough and people should just suffer.
I think the best way to describe lyme for others, it is like having fibromyalgia only the symptoms are from a bacteria called lyme transmitted from a tick, and can vary in severity. Best not to over complicate or make it dramatic for others. They at least understand fibromyalgia without having to go into too much detail.

I, too, wish the show had been more organized, but I thought Pam and the good doctor -and the wonderful people who called and e-mailed!- out-shone Phil Baker. Someone should have asked him about the "good-old-boy" network that runs the ALDF. He tagged himself some more NIH money, which is probably why he heads the ALDF.

Good news, I think the plug of the movie under our skin during the interview did help awareness. Take a look at Google search volume for the term "under our skin"
