Jake will be admitted to the hospital tomorrow at 7:30 am. His surgery is scheduled for 9:30 am and he is having a monitor inserted in his brain next to his VP shunt.

He will be having his intracranial pressure monitored. They will set his shunt at different settings to see how he responds. They will also be monitoring his changes in pressure doing different activities.

The neurosurgeon said to plan for a 5 day stay. He will be in ICU because the regular rooms don't have the monitoring equipment.

Jake has Lyme (+ co-infections)and pseudo-tumor cerebri. His headache did decrease after the shunt, but it's still very bad.

Can you please keep Jake in your prayers?

Jake's surgery went well. He has a wire sticking out of his head that connects to the machine recording his intracranial pressures.

He was doing OK yesterday. Today the headache is worse. His neurosurgeon has not been in to see him this morning.

Thank you for your prayers.

Jake is still in the hospital and he is doing OK. For now, all they are doing is recording/monitoring his intracranial pressure. The neurosurgeon said he would adjust the pressure on Jake's shunt and see how he reacts to that.

I will update if anything changes.

From Mayo Clinic website:

Pseudotumor cerebri (SOO-doh-too-mur SER-uh-bry) occurs when the pressure inside your skull (intracranial pressure) increases for no obvious reason.

Symptoms mimic those of a brain tumor, but no tumor is present.

Pseudotumor cerebri can occur in children and adults, but it's most common in obese women of childbearing age.

When no underlying cause for the increased intracranial pressure can be discovered, pseudotumor cerebri may also be called idiopathic intracranial hypertension.

The increased intracranial pressure associated with pseudotumor cerebri can cause swelling of the optic nerve and result in vision loss.

Medications often can reduce this pressure, but in some cases, surgery is necessary.
