Lou4656 and I are trying to walk each day or as often as possible. We are keeping a chart with the number of miles each day.
We were going to do this by PM....but I need it IN MY FACE!! I need to be held accountable, ya know!!
kam has just started walking and wants to start a "hiker's club"...so whatever it's called, does anyone else want to join in??
Lou and I [oh and map1131] are calculating the miles from MO to MD. Should be interesting to see how long it takes us to "meet in the middle!" [Oak Ridge Boys??]
That will have to be our theme song. Now who's number one hit was that?? [country]
I've walked 5 times since we started this, but haven't clocked the mileage. Will try to remember to do that tomorrow.
any takers!???

I'm back from my vacation in Green Bay, and did not do much walking (unless you count the walk from the cheese shop to the bratwurst store or the hike to the Packers Pro Shop at Lambeau Field).

Wednesday. Able to hike 10 min in and 10 min out on the trail.
Wow. It is so quiet there. I like it.
Woke up this am feeling a little like a truck ran me over because I over did it yesterday on my feet.
But, this evenings outing went well. I did not over do it and was able to have a clear head for the most part.
I think I almost got pulled over on the way for going to slow.
I took the highway this time and realized I should be going faster than I was and speeded up.
About that time I looked behind me and saw a police car. He turned off when I did and followed almost to the trail head. He turned off just before.
Next time, I will stay on the back roads and avoid the highway. Too much for this lyme brain most of the time anyway.

went again last night but only because rosie kept looking at me as if to say "I'm ready...are you ready?"
It was about the 3rd time of this taht i decided i would give it a try.
it was tough going last night. i turned around after 10 min. it seemed forever to get to the 10 min mark and i did not cover as much ground as usual either.
it seemed like it took a long time to get back too.
so strange how this condition is. I can see why people get lost on a trail. I was in such a fog that I did not recognize where I was and was not sure if I was still on the trial at times and this trial is well marked.
Good news is I could not have walked on a trial like this in the past.
it is not smooth and I need to walk through dry river beds with rocks in them.
at least the brain is working well enough to move the feet over obstacles now.
but, when I got out of the car and walked down the hall way to the apartment my feet were doing that lyme shuffle.

Well all . . . I got up an extra 1/2 hour early this morning to go for a walk. Got dressed and went to the fridge to grab a bottle of water on my way out the door.
That's when I saw it. A can of orange juice had exploded all over the inside of my fridge. One of the kids must have put the o.j. in there . . . God knows when. It must have gotten buried in the back, fermented over time, and then blew up.
What a mess! So . . . I did not get my walk in this morning because I was up to my elbows in sticky orange juice concentrate.
And now it is pouring rain. And I work a double today, so not much free time. So, TuTu, I am no closer to you than I was when I got up this morning.
It's a plot, I tell you, to sabatoge my walk!

Bummer, lou! I didn't get to walk yesterday because of the weather [and my sinuses.] I was reluctant to get out in the dry dusty WIND.
Maybe I can go for a walk in just a minute. It's cool out and slightly windy. If it's not too windy, I'll do it!!
kam...Good job!!

If it's not to late for me to join this walking group:
Ironically, I just started wlaking on my own again this week:
walked a half mile on Wednesday and a mile wtih light weights this evening.
I swear I feel like I walked a marathon!
Frankly, though, i'm just grateful to be walking at all. It was only about a year ago that I couldn't go further than a block or so without limping, numbness and excruciating pain in my hip and knee.
With these diseases, time is an amazing healer (well, not to mention the LLMD, acupuncture, chinese herbs, abx and supplements...

Thanks for the welcome, too. It was pouring rain here last night, so I used a walk-at-home DVD by leslie sansone. My company has hired her to do a DVD to work adjunctively wtih clients' weight loss.
I was skeptical at first, but it's actually a pretty thorough workout. I was impressed...and sweating...
Still not up to her 2-mile routine, but I've finally made it a mile!
Good luck getting your workout in tonight.

Looks like we are all back on the trail again. This is good.
On my feet too much this am. Went to ball field and was on my feet to pick up Rosie's poop and get in and out of ball field.
Then went to dog park and was on my feet to get to a chair and out of dog park.
Heard about a new trial head close to home. Went to check it out. I was on my feet about 5 min in and 5 min out guessing.
On my feet from car, down hall to apartment. Feeling sick now.
Over did it.
New trial head is iffy. I could use my power chair on it if it did not have the rocks at the entry way.
The other obstacle is the drainage ditch in front of the gate. That was tricky for someone who does not have the strength to go up and down a drainage ditch.
It looks like they are in the process of lining it with rocks. Hope they put some sort of bridge across the ditch when they are finished.
And then there was the gate and fencing. Wide open for Rosie to go through and run across the street. Not good.
Was too weak to notice terrain. But, it is different than the other trail. The trail is not really a trial either but a dirt road unless I missed the trail.
I would like to give it a try again but when I am doing better.
More vegetation on this trial. Heard that elk can be seen on this trail too.
At least Rosie got a good work out this am.
Guessing I was out about an hour total between the ball field, the dog park and the trail head.
Not bad.

Welcome Randi I had that brand of shoes before I got sick. I really liked them.
Thanks Andie
Rosie and I were out this afternoon too. The wind chill factor is freezing.
We went to the rodeo grounds via the power chair.
I let Rosie off leash at the rodeo grounds.
Then I parked the power chair inside the trail area and walked probably about 5 min in and 5 min out.
all in all we were out for about an hour. I am exhausted but it was good to be out and about.
Nice horse trailers at the rodeo grounds. Just a few. Bloomer's I think they were called. I am guessing it was a practice run. They were all packing up and leaving when I got there.
Fun to see the horses. I imagine getting on them and riding down the trail head.
I think the ride in the power chair on rough, dirt roads could almost count as a work out too. HA!
My whole body is hurting. HOping I am able to go to the hot tub tomorrow at the gym. It is times like this I really miss not having a bath tub.

Yahoo! I was able to get out after sunset but still enough light out to see.
First we went to the golf course. I parked the car in a field and walked across the field to the boundaries of the gulf course. Had planned on stepping over the boundary and going out on the green.
Wrong. Saw signs saying no trespassing.
So, walked back to car and went to trial head nearby.
This one has the large dirt road so it was a better choice as I did not think I could handle all the rocks on the other trial head.
I started huffing and puffing just a few steps in. But, made it further than last time. Made it to the first trial marker.
Looked at my watch and I had only be hiking 5 min.
That is oK. Better than none. Time to turn around and hike out. For some reason the total time was 15 min.
Rosie did well. She came when I called. I could see her getting ready to run out the gate and across the street to the golf course.
I was able to have her come to me before that thought completely took over. I leashed her up and we walked out together the last part.
SAw a dead chipmunk. So tiny. Didn't see it on the way in.
It was a struggle the whole time but also felt very good to be on the trail.
I like the idea of doing a summary each week.

Cave...just scanned your other thread. (That was fun)
I, too, hope to walk around the apartment complex in the future.
I, too, tend to want to do more.
A friend who knows me reminded me it would be a good idea to keep it within my limits so I could do a little each day.
She is right.
Kind of doing that with all things now and it is working out much better than over doing it and not being able to do anything for several days.

Joints are HURTING! I hope it is from painting a stucco ceiling on Sunday, or the damp weather, and not the beginning of a relapse. Neck, shoulders, knees, wrists and ankles are all aching.
I've been debating going back on abx, but I don't want to. Little subtle signs indicate that the lyme wants to return, but I'm not sure if a relapse happens very slowly, or if you just crash.
Anyway, hope to get in a decent walk this afternoon, if I'm not hurting too badly.

Cave....too much excitement me thinks.
Just got back from our trail walk.
Made it to the loop this time.
Also able to see that the terrain was a lot like the other trail: junipers, manzanita, but possibly some scrub oak or some sort of small bushes.
MOre undergrowth here.
It also climbs up a hill.
Got in my car and went up the dirt road to see what the mileage was that I hiked.
Had to look at the odometer 3 times. It was just barely rolling over to 2/10 of a mile.
It was still good to be on the trail.
A guy in a jeep passed me on the way back. The two legged wild life looks pretty good on that trail.
Also saw a woman coming from a cross trail/dirt road.
Hadn't seen that road until I saw her. I might try that way some time if I can get up the embankment to get on it.
Looks like I will be able to cover more of this road/trail as I can drive my car back a way, park it and start the hike.
Wanted to drive around the loop to see how far it was but my brain was straining to make sure I did not get stuck in a ditch as it was. Needed to use what brain I had left to get me safely back.
Calves of legs were hurting some. A good hurt. Like they use to when I was building them up.
It is one of the things I noticed after being down with lyme for month's/years...I no longer had rock solid calves.
I could hit them and they just flapped in the breeze just like the skin under my arms.

Can I join in the "fun"?
I walked my kids to the corner store on Monday and Yesterday I walked them to the park.
The thing is I havent really been able to walk to my daughters bus stop 6 houses away on a regular basis.
The corner store is only 3 blocks away.
The park is maybe 1/2 mile to and from- Not really sure though.
I am paying for it now. I felt ok yesterday, but I couldn't sleep ladt night.
I think I pulled a muscle in my left calf and my hips hurt. Maybe I over did it.
I can't promise I will walk everyday, but I am trying.
Maybe I could be a part time member?
I don't think I am well enough to walk everyday!
Good Luck to everyone!
