I am presently on 100mgs of Minocin every other day (will ramp to 200mgs daily) and have had intense weakness in my gluts and legs and recently had MRI of hips which showed arthritis (I am in my 30's!).

The leg pain/weakness has been steadily getting worse for the past year (though some days I don't have any).

I also have had on and off night sweats since 2000. Now they are back (every three weeks or so I wake up soaked and notice a I breakout in the center of my chest). I also get chills when I lay down to sleep some nights, vertigo, twitching and a periodic rash over my liver area. Also episdoes of intense vertigo and brain fog.

I have had multiple neg pcr's from MDL, Igenex and Bowen for Babs, but since I was living in LA could have the WA-1 strain but they won't let me test for it because I live in NY state (I love NY)!!!

I have a bottle of Holly Pharm. Artemisinin. Should I do a trial run and see if I herx? I don't know what else to do here and my LLMD is out to lunch lately (I think I need to switch!).

If I herx it would have to be Babs right? Art wouldn't do anything to anyone who was negative right?

Also, if I herx, does anyone know where to get Riamet?

Thanks!

Chris

Sounds like a good plan! I don't think art works on anything else. GIGI has info on the riamet.

If you respond with a herx, will your LLMD then treat you?

Yes, but since no + test doubt insurance will pay.

Dr J B says (video is available at [URL=http://www.Lymepa.com)] that PCR of blood for Babesia is usually positive in first 2 weeks, not so much after that, same for Lyme.

Have you had antibody tests for Babesia? MDL does an IgG, Igenex offers IgG and IgM also FISH. IgM indicates recent infection, IgG past exposure. Generic labs also do IgG, may not be worth much.

Artemisinin has been studied for tx of malaria, used in combination with another drug. To use it without a correct pairing with the second drug may allow the Babesia to develop a resistance to the artemisinin.

A second opinion may be helpful.

The most reliable test for Babesia is a blood slide. This test can yield false negatives as can all the other tests.

Bowen will do this.

Dr. J B in Long Island told my husband to treat based on a positive Bowen test.

Myco:

I did exactly what you are thinking of doing. My test for Babs was neg. I was so sure I had it that I bought Artemesia Annua tincture and took it for 3 weeks. I herxed my brains out and that was enough for my MD to start me on Mepron. So glad he did.

Beachcomber,

Are you well now after the Mepron?

Not sure if I should do that or Riamet.

myco,

Just butting in. I love mepron. I've got more energy and actually worked 27 hours this week. I've been on it three weeks.
