Guys,
I live in prime Lyme-town!!!! Dutchess county new york and this friend would not listen to me tell her that 2 pills would not be enough as a precaution IN CASE she has Lyme disease.

This was at lunch today at work where I almost entirely lost my cool.

What would you guys recommend since the doctor will not test her until December and thinks that two pills are enough.

Am I nuts?

[bonk]

Lymetoo,

Thanks for the feedback. Okay, I am still nuts, but not about this.

I did send her to this site and no, she will not listen because she is stubborn and thinks she knows everything.

I guess there's nothing to do, however I am sick and tired of running into people who will not listen. What's the big deal with taking some pills for awhile? It's not like the treatment is surgery.

anyway, can't help others unless they want to be helped.

Thanks

Hi,

I've been through this too.

I have a friend who's had all kinds of symptoms for a long time.

About a year ago, she pulled a tick off of herself and got a bulls eye rash.

She was given 10 days of doxy.

I told her that she had to get proper treatment. Her cousin, who also has had chronic lyme told her to get more treatment.

She wouldn't do it. The doctors were too far (about 1/2/ hour from her work and about 1 hour from her home).

It frustrated me for a while but what can you do? I even spoke with one of my Lyme doctors about it and they said they see the same thing all the time. It frustrates them too.

Take a deep breath. Maybe if you keep dropping hints or get your coworker some literature (The Basics on Lyme Disease Association of South East Pennsylvania website is good), something will sink in.

Hope this helps,

Corgilla

yes, it is frustrating and at this point (because we are not close) I will drop it. There are other people at work who are very open about their Lyme, and so she might ask them.

If all I did was put a bug in her ear, then it was worth it.

I can't believe your friend wouldn't drive a half hour. When you think of how much some of us drive/fly to see our LLMD.

At least this site is here for people who want it.

thanks

Hopeful: Steph here!

I can appreciate your frustration. Here's an example:

My friend next door has gotten the Lyme spiel. Yet, they don't protect their yard, themselves, the kids, the pets, nothing....Awhile ago, she saw a tick in the house, and then she had a suspicious rash. She was concerned enough to show it to me (and it was on a breast, that's how worried she was). I suggested she get evaluated. I even offered to drive her a long distance. She refused.

(Since then, she's been sick with Lyme symptoms, but insists it's just her Diabetes. And her one son has major symptoms with learning issues, rage, other cognitive stuff.)

It's to where I won't go there, nor will I let any of them in here.

People can be so blase' about this. Before I knew much about Lyme, and that I had it, I was, too, admittedly. But if I knew someone so sick from it, and it was suggested I get evaluated, I would have been at an office immediately.

Sigh....It's the ol' "you can lead a horse to water" sitch.

Steph

Hi Steph!

I wouldn't go anywhere near them or have them in your place, either!!

Thanks for empathizing with me. It is not simply this one situation, but many in the last couple of months. People who know how sick I've been and yet throw away any advise no matter how common sense it may be.

I need to let go and move on.

The one person who believed me about Lyme was my daughter who had been dx with cfs and fibro, but now recognizes she has lyme. She's not doing all that great since she can't tolerate most antibiotics. right now she's doing salt therapy.

thanks for the validation

best,
hopeful123

pq,

What the h*** was he thinking? That is so crazy. Like he wanted you out of there so he decided on one pill. Maybe that's what happened with my friend, too.

Glad you stood up for yourself and talked him into a month's worth.

Good for you.

I guess they're all over..

hopeful,

i'm not up to discussing it right now, but this, and several docs. i've seen over the years have done the same, and similar tactics.

only one of many ducs. i've seen was genuinely ignorant; all others absolutely knew better.

pq,
I am so sorry that you have had that experience more than once. I've had similar stuff a couple of times, but nowhere near as bad as some on this board. I am lucky.

I do have a problem with my pcp P.A. who has recently made some odd comments about lyme and my doctor. She is well regarded by a lot of people around here and I liked her a lot before this. It's funny but I have avoided going back there even though I need my cholestorol retested.

best,
hopeful123
