Sounds pretty crazy but today I was glad I knew about lyme and all of the helpful people here.
My son just tested positive for lyme, babs and mycoplasm. He had 4 weeks of doxy in the summer and did get better but the babs symptoms were still very obvious to me but not his pediatrician who gave me a hard time when I asked for the tests. They came back negative so I took him to my doc and we sent the blood to Igenex and MDL.
I don't know how he did it but he played the whole football season (started both ways) with this crap and just found out last night that he was picked for the All-Star game next week. His first question to the doc was "can I wait to start the medicine until after the game" and that's what he is doing. So next week he will begin treatment and I pray that he makes a quick and complete recovery.
So yes, today (and only today)I am Thankful that I have lyme because it may have just saved my son a lifetime of struggles.
I hope everyone has a nice holiday. I wasn't really looking forward to the Holiday but now it seems like it's going to be all right.

That is great news!!!!! I'm so glad something showed up and he will be treated. Yes, you did save your son a lot of misery. I'm sure he will do great in the Allstar game :-) and get better with treatment. No doubt this made your thanksgiving even better then you thought it was going to be!

I too felt exactly the same as you.
I felt very thankful that I got Lyme disease.
If I had not, then I probably never would have thought to test my daughter.
She was CDC positive. Painful knees. "Growing pains" in legs. Who knows how many docs she might have seen with how many stupid useless diagnoses?
So I like to think of Lyme disease as a gift, allowing me to be smart enough to pay attention and save my child from having a much worse case of it later.
She's an honor roll student, goalie for her soccer team, and her aching knees are getting to be a thing of the past in just four months of treatment.
So sometimes Lyme is a gift! (That's how I'm looking at it!)
Good luck to your son in the All-Star game - I know you'll be one proud Dad!

I am thankful for many things I've learned from this illness. I also thankful that it has made me a better person. Well that's my opinion anyway.
I've grown more spiritual, I've learned sometimes there's a gray area and not everything is black & white. I've learned patience.
I've learned that there are more important things in life than my career. I thought who I was, was my career. I put that career first, when I shouldn't have.
I'm thankful for my understanding of disabled people.
I'm thankful I'm improving,and can now think about what I'm going to do in my next career. Right now my heart is telling me I want to work with children. That takes me back to patience, my dear, patience.

Scott, Hi! I've been thinking about you and wondering how you're doing. I really appreciated your post, and I'll be cheering for your son in his all-stars game.
There are days I'm grateful I have this disease, but mostly, I struggle with gratitude. Just in the past day or so, I've been feeling pretty down and trying so hard to find the silver lining in what seems like a pretty big cloud.
Pam, I appreciated what you wrote, and I am deeply and always grateful for the compassion this disease has given me. I'd never really been sick and frankly didn't have a lot of patience for it. That's definitely changed.
But patience...ah, that's clearly still not my long-suit
