Its tongue in cheek. She (Amy Tan) said it at a function. Watch the "Literati with Lyme Video" at www.lymeblog.comPosts: 153 | From Watertown, CT USA | Registered: Feb 2004

It is a quote from an interview with Amy Tan.
She was saying that Ducks believe that by researching illnesses online that we make ourselves believe that we have that illness. thus, by all of us posting on this board and researching lyme we dont really have it but in our minds we think that we do.
I believe someone on here posted the site where the interview is...lymeblog.com i think.
i hope i was able to explain that...my mind is foggy today.

She was mocking the ducks........see the video...she even laughs after saying it.

Well, why don't you post the full context of the article? Instead of using a misleading "snippet" in your signature....?
Just a suggestion........

sheesh........im sick and now i have to be attacked...please people it was just humor. Its been my signature for awhile now. Cant we all just be nice. I also saw this quote on a website quoting her interview...thats where i took this line from....it is only a snipet...but those that are familar with her know i had no ill intentions.
I may suggest if you dont like the signature then please feel free not to respond to my posts.
I really am too sick to deal with bashing right now...dont we have our illness to battle, isnt that enough.... havent you read what i have been thru this week alone.
Im not quoting ducks im mocking ducks...its tongue and cheek...sometimes the comments on this board are so sad, the way people are so mean to one another. I just dont understand it.
I am more ahsamed then hurt that some choose to pick on the sickest while they are down on a board like this.
take care

Or maybe we people can take the energy wasted on one person's signature and redirect it towards a useful discussion of the disease.

can'tgiveup, I often wondered what was the story on your signature. Thanks for explaining and no it didn't offend me, because I didn't understand it so "How could I be offended?" Thank God Amy Tan gets it. Man, I wish she could get some high profile things going on lyme.
Don't let a few rattle your already rattled body.
Take care, Pam

maybe putting a rolleyes graemlin in the signature would make the sarcasm more obvious

I didn't find the signature offensive at all. I also laughed because I heard so many people say that to me while I was on my mission to figure out what was wrong with me.
I was convinced I had a brain tumor. Different kinds of Cancers. God I had everything!!! I drove my husband nutts. So I can relate to that quote. Then I tested CDC Positive and my family shut right up!! I still panick and think it is something else that is wrong with me. I try to avoid reading to much because it does get your mind going to bad places and make anxiety worse.

Goodness.
Well, I wasn't exactly sure about Can't Give Up's signature, either...
But I figure it's a good policy to ascribe the best possible intentions to a person -- (unless someone hits me over the head with a two-by-four with the opposite, that is!!!)
I'm hoping you climb out of your herx soon, Can't. Don't let this get you down. Good grief!

Hi can't,
I agree with you. This is a lyme disease forum after all, and most people who are familiar with lyme, know of Amy Tan and her famous speeches.
I use one of her quotes in my signature as well, she is a wise woman.
Hope you are feeling better!

Does anyone know why *graemlins* is spelled that way on this site?
I wondered (because I just wonder about such things:D) and found out that it wasn't a misspelled word, but seems to be a registered trademark name for these smileys.
Wonder of wonders. Learn something new every day.

hey! I think we could all use a good laugh! The point is, that it is a joke! Some people just didnt understand it because it wasn't clear. I understood it because I saw Amy Tan speak. If you weren't there or you did not know that, I can see how it could be confusing. can't give up clarified that right away, so let's be nice and give each other a break! let's laugh at something new...Like...time for the Lymie Christmas carols! Ahh yes...

Hey can't I'm sorry you have had such a tough week. I always found the sarcasm in it. I think Amy Tan is great. I used to have a cat named Sagwa. What I don't find funny is that everytime I turn on my cell phone it says:
"What the mind harbors, the body manifests."
My husband typed that in and I can't get it off!

Geeez...that last one IS annoying, i would strangle my hubby if he did that to me! Well, you could always wrangle his cellphone and write something equally as obnoxious! PM me and I'll help you erase your cell phone message, its easy!
