Oops!

We have been going round with daughter's itchy picc line site. Has had picc 6wks and more or less bothers her daily.

Have tried different dressings and cremes.

Just occured to me--Could this be from systemic yeast?

I was allergic to Tegaderm. I switched to Op-Site dressings and the rash & itching went away.

LLMD cultured the wound under the dressing to be sure. Don't know if he cultured for yeast. Ask you LLMD about this.

I have this problem. Over time I have become

allergic to the stocking that they gave me and also

to the medicine they use to wash the area arround

the picc line. They had to start using betadine.

She might want to try that. I still have to put

hyrocortisone cream on my arm every few days.

Sometimes I have to pull the bandage back and put

cream on because the itching gets so bad. I make

sure not to open the part with the picc line

though and I retape the edges. You will just have

to try different things until you find out what is

causing it. Fun isn't it?

I agree it could be an allergy to cleansing agents, the dressing itself.

I had some itching and redness but no rash. I started using Skin Prep after the alcohol and betadine cleansing. It is applied to the skin avoiding the actual insertion site. Apply to the area the Tegaderm covers.

This helps to protect the skin and an added benefit is the dressing comes off much easier for the next dressing change.
