I'm trying to make sense of this...

I was treating lyme with doxy for about 5 weeks. I was definitely seeing improvement in my symptoms. But, I wanted to be in the sun this summer so I asked that my antibiotics be changed.

Disaster!

I started on amox/zith. By the 5th day on them, I thought I was having an allergic reaction. My throat felt constricted, I had swallowing difficulties, my breathing started to get funny, etc.

So I stopped after a couple of weeks and returned to the doxy.

Here's my question. The symptoms have lingered. The throat, breathing, and swallowing issues are still here and seem to be getting worse. I've also started to get night sweats and chest pain, however, it feels muscular.

Could being on the zith perhaps brought out the babs in me? Don't know if I have it yet, haven't been tested, but I'd put a million bucks on it that babs has taken over.

Any thoughts?

I am by know means an expert but while I was reading your post before I even got the part about babs I was thinking this person might have babs.

I hope you start to feel better soon.

Hi PBizzle,

I don't know, it's possible, but I would ask your LLMD, because breathing difficulties can be an allergic reation also. And I am not a doctor, just a fellow lyme patient.

I spent a year on Minocin, thinking I was just herxing, while the whole time I was having horrible Babesia symptoms. It made me hate Mino.

It can very difficult to tell an allergy from the breathing probelms you can have from Babesia, I have learned to tell the difference, but there were times I took Benadryl anyway.

When I herxed from babesia I would get paralysis.. on my face, in my throat, tougne, I could not talk right. So when I did have breathing probelms I also had those at the same time.

The same happened to me, LLMD said it was Babesia and I started treatment for Babs (Mepron/Ketek) and the symptoms lessened greatly, when I stopped Mepron they returned with avengance

I find your post interesting since I had difficulty swallowing for a short while when on Zithromax. I also know personally of one other Lyme person this happened to.

When I got very bad I began to have this weird throat closing in choking thing where I would choke on food.

When I herxed I would herx with my throat often.

My throat also had other Lyme weirdnesses like making this weird dry clicking sound... and it Herxed with that too-

i had a reaction very similar while on zithromax.

my dr at the time thought i had an inner ear infection, because of the dizziness and numb toungue i had.

i took theh one dose oral 2g, and about 3 days into it my mouth felt numb, felt like i couldnt swallow, tongue was so numb. Dizziness increased and i got sensitivity to light.

my dr said allergic reaction and i would have to wait it out, the numbness in my throat never returned after that or did the dizziness.

How long ago did you take the zithromax, it has a longer half life then the other abx, so it will stay in your system longer.

For me when i took the 2g, it took a good 10 days for symptoms to clear.

I've been off the zithro for two weeks. I just don't know what to do. This throat feeling, along with trouble breathing, is a nightmare.

I also have gastroparesis, which I thought was gone, but it's returned as well. It's causing TERRIBLE acid reflux. My throat is always making noises. Maybe it has nothing to do with abx and everything to do with that.

But then again, there's a reason the gastro is back...what co-infection causes GI symptoms? Most of my symptoms have been GI related. Maybe it's just a nasty herx that's lasting FOREVER!!!

Hi BP

Sounds to me like meds stirred up bugs
and you are herxing -- Babs?

Med Change tends to make this happen --

I herx Everytime I change meds-

Hard swallowing reaction is fairly common -
My Guess is about 20% of folks have this
symptom-- many posts here -

I had it for about 1 month or so --
then cleared --
I think it is muscle thing -

-------------

Allergic reactions --

I am allergic to Egg Plant --

Let me tell you that when I eat even a small amount of Eggplant --
I know I made a Big Mistake -Quickly-
Minutes-

My throat feels like it has Thousands of
needles Jammed into the inside of my throat-
Heart races -Scary

Folks that I know that are allergic to other
things have a very similar reaction -

----------

Read this for Doxi and sun --Jay--
