I have been getting IV glutathione each week with myers cocktail and 10 Grams of Vitamin C.

I wanted to ask anyone in here, does Vitamin C cause die-off/herx reactions??? I have kinda noticed I feel better right after the IV but feel poorly around a day afterwards... Any Help?

When lyme is at its worst for me, I SEVERE pain from vitamin C. I also get very sick from it when lyme is at its worst.

I thought that too much vitamin C with antibiotics was not a good idea? I think? that was what I read awhile back, a few years ago.

I also read somewhere that when on long term antibiotics one should take minimal supps, I read that vitamin C and Grapefruit seed extract did something to the uptake of the antibiotics,

the tissue uptake of the antibiotics was not reached with the antibiotics if one was taking too much vitamin C, and grapefruit seed extract.

Maybe though this has changed?

See if someone else has anything to say about this.

I became allergic to ALL supps and foods because of lyme, I had been off antibiotics, and was getting really sick, and had to wait to get into see the LLMD, by then

I became sick from everything, alleergic more like it.

It is a tough road, keep asking.
Maybe find an ART practioner, this way they can tell you exactly what is what, if they are good at it.

Byron,

Are you on any antibiotics?

My doctor has been giving me glut for 1 yr too to help my liver detox. I have only received 2 myers cocktails.

I take 6 grams of Vit C daily. I am on minocycline only and it is ok to take this with Vit C. Minerals however, should be taken away from the mino as the mino will just bind with the minerals and exit the body without effect.

I get the same thing (IV Vitamin C/Glutathione, plus I think my nurse adds some other vitmains in the bag including Vit. B and some other stuff). At first, it didn't help or hinder. The day after, I was weak then I felt like I had more energy. However the longer i'm on the treatment the worse I feel. Not really worse, but different.

Last week, I started feeling funny (lightheaded almost) during treatment. This week my chest was feeling a burning sensation and I just overall did not feel well.

I don't know if it's a die off or not, but my doctor mentioned a while back something ab out a vitamin C/Salt protocol that can help kill the Lyme bacteria (if I"m remembering correctly) so I wonder if that's it. The high dose of Vitamin C with whatever my daily diet has been for the day equals .. die off?

I'm not really a salt person though. And I can't remember what I had to eat that day prior to the IV for the salt content. I wonder if this is what is happening to you. Do you eat things with a high sodium count?

It could be that the glut is detoxing your body thereby reducing the strain on the immune system and the Vit C (which is also a good detoxer) is strengthening the immune system and the ill effect you are feeling is actually your immune system successfully fighting your bugs.

That is why we ache when we have a virus.

I would try drinking or eating food high in vitamin C insttead of supplementation. I would sugest drinking 2 8 oz glasses of a juice high

in vit. C like orange juice or v8 fusion. I have my BS in Nutirtion and Vitamin C is absorbed for efficiently in its natural form. If you take it

at high doses is just flushed out of your body. Also vitamin supplementation lowers immunity [Frown] , whixch is not something people dealing with lyme disease should do.

Good Luck

I am not giving the protocol here. But these were my instructions from Dr. K. way back when, when I used to have this done.

Much Vitamin C is corn derived. Some people are allergic to corn. The beet derived Vit C is preferred.

Possible problems:

IV-C makes people hypoglycemic. The patient should eat before IV. If he/she gets pale, cold or sweaty anyway, know that the most probable cause is hypoglycemia. Use dextrose from emergency kit, 20cc, inject slow IV push through the same butterfly that you already have in place.

IV-C makes people thirsty. Drink plenty of water before, during and after. Use a mobile IV pole, so patient can walk with the IV to bathroom. Make sure they have a cup full of water by their comfortable IV chair.

IV-c causes a low-grade phlebitis in some people some of the time. This is not a dangerous event, but can be bothersome, worrisome and sometimes more in certain patients. Let the patient know that this may happen before you begin the IV. Use a different vein with subsequent visits, weven if your favorite vein looks o.k. after the first round. If the IV burns during the procedure, adjust the needle, position of the arm, etc. If it still hurts, find another vein. If it still hurts, find another treatment.

I usually had 1.5 bottles of C (37.5 grams). Anything from 25 to 100 grams is safe. The faster you go and the more C, the more problems, The more C you use, the better the effect on the patient's health.

I never had any problems with it, except running to the bathroom when I wanted to sit and just snooze away. I never had what I would call a herx. But then, I never had a herx per se. No matter what, I was always using supporting agents for mop-up. to avoid re-uptake. Actually, the purpose of C was to help the metal detox: C as an antioxidant restores electrons to mercury and is then easier to detox. Microcurrent works in a similar way.

Take care.

Just a few comments:

I also believe Vitamins are best from food.

2 8oz glasses of OJ have way too much sugar for someone w/lyme especially if they are on ABX.. Even if it's "natural" sugar. The yeast and spirochetes likes it just as much!

I would like to see the research that says Vitamin supplementation lowers immunity. I do much better when I supplement. The lyme infection wipes out so many crucial nutrients that there is no way to keep up with out supplements.

And yes, I eat a healthy non-processed organic diet. Still, the vitamins are necessary for me.

I would have to say that the western study if nutrition has failed me in the past. It was not until I reversed all the suggestions I had gotten from various university trained nutritionists over the years, that I was able to lose 100 lbs and become athletic.

Yes, like everything, western nutrition has its place, but there are other views.

I am not a nutritionist. I only have my own lifelong experience to go on. That may or may not apply to others. But I will say that following supposedly "sound" nutritional advice, did if fact not help me and perhaps made my problem more severe.

I am not putting down your training just saying there are many other views and experiences to consider.

Yep. Vit C supplementation is crucial for me too. My blood pressure goes up without it.

The C my doctor recommended is by Perque and contains no corn. I have yet to reach bowel tolerance. C must be taken away from chlorella.

I am on 4000 to 6000 mg daily. I also eat a diet high in organic fruits and veggies so much C in my diet. Just seems I need a lot of C.

Your body will tell you if you are taking too much. You will begin to have diahrrea. Per Dr K, you should supplement to the point of diahrrea then back down a notch and that is your appropriate level. (I read this on his website, I am not a patient of his)

I also read somewhere that healthy people cannot tolerate too much C before hitting bowel tolerance. As little as 200 mg. Yet sick people can go as high as 10,000mg without hitting bowel tolerance.

C is a good thing for the body and we do not produce it on our own. It is not toxic. Any extra will simply be eliminated.

Luvs, what you wrote about vitamin c to bowel tolerance certainly applies to me. I take 8grams a day on salt/c and took an extra 10grams of powdered form all in one shot yesterday for a laxitive effect. No effects on my bowels whatsoever!

That's the opposite of what I've been reading and seeing for years. I too would like to see research on this. Thanks,
Terry
