Two days ago, I woke up with hives on the inside of my thighs and on one of my calves. The night before, I had taken a jacuzzi with some bubble product. I associated the hives to the jacuzzi since, at the moment, I am not taking any medications. My rheumatologist made me stop the Minocin a month and a half ago because, my face was covered with pimples and he wanted me to have a hydrogen breath test for SIBO. I just did that last week, and had decided to start again the Minocin on the first of the year to see how I would react this time. - ( I'd better wait on that one). Anyway, I would like to know if Lyme causes hives, just like that... At the moment, I am taking Benadryl, but it doesn't seem to help.It's actually worse, this morning. I know that if I go to the doctor he is going to want to inject me with Kenalog. Recently, I also have been diagnosed with scleroderma, could that be the reason for the hives? What do I do? Any suggestions will be welcome. Thank you, Cl.

Have you eatin any nuts lately? My wife just ate two cashews a few days ago and now she has rashes on her belly and thighs and under her arms. She was never allergic to them before treatment of lyme.

What about the bubble stuff? New product? I get skin reactions to soaps, etc (tend to be allergic to a lot).
Was the jacuzzi cleaned with any new products? Another thought if it's an allergic reaction.

I broke out in hives big time 6 years ago. I was rushed to an emergency clinic because I went into anaphylactic shock. I had not eaten anything that would trigger this, as it was first thing in the AM. The MD who treated me asked if I had ever been tested for Lyme. She tested me and voila, I was positive. I got the hives for weeks after until the abx started to kick in.
So, my take is that the hives were caused (somehow) by the infection. My body was in fight/flight overdrive and producing histamines off the charts from any "threat". Hope this makes some sense.

I broke out in severe head to toe hives after the LAST dose of Clafran I took..
ONLY thing that helped was a wet wash cloth with baking soda heaped as high as possible and the damp pastey stuff applied and took the itch away till it left(fell off) all to soon!!
Try baking soda to reduce itchies,it works,,sometimes!!
You might try sticking just one arm in that jacuzzi again,,,just to see,,,or try a SMALL spot of the bubble bath or other stuff used recently,pure on skin someplace NOT affected now,,,then you know if you react!!
I heard those jacuzzis are notorious for NOT being very clean environments caution like --just don--

YES!! Dr. B told me this when I ended up in the ER due to 7 days of a hive outbreak.
It is your body reacting to a foreign intruder.

Since I get red itchy bumps pretty easily now, due to contact with materials, I started reading about allergic reactions and Lyme. So far, what I've read is that if the main immune system cells are in a weakened state and not able to do their proper job, then the mast cells with their histamine reactions take over and give us hives. Does anyone know any more science on the hive reaction?
