On friday, I started minocycline 200mg 2x a day. At first I noticed the dizziness, which i was told would go away with time.
Last night, I started feeling a little feverish and faint. Then, very emotional.
This morning I woke up, and I felt extremely dizzy and nauseous. I also had chills then moments where I was sweating. I vomitted several times (before I took any meds).
Could this be a herx? Anyone have any ideas?
Also, I noticed that I seem to be taking a very high dose compared to older posts I found on minocycline.
Anyone else take 400mg a day?

Holy cow.
Mino is a tough drug. It crosses the BBB (blood brain barrier). 400mg a day is a very high dose in my opinion.
I'm only on 50mg every other day and then I went up to 100mg every other day. Now, I'm back down to 50mg every other day. Even just that was/is rough.
I'd definitely call your LLMD and tell him/her your reaction to it. They may want to lower the dose for a while and gradually work up. That's a high dose to go right into without working up to it slowly.

Sure sounds like it can be a herx.
I thought Minocylcine wasn't available in the U.S.?

I started out on 400mg too. I lasted almost 2 months and reduced my dosage to 200mg daily. I tried to tough it out but couldn't. The vertigo and vomiting went away for me I just started to feel worse and worse. I feel a bit better after reducing dosage.

Mino is HARD, but good.
I bought gelatin capsules and split the powder. My daughter could only handle 50mg twice a week to start.
She eventually worked up to 200mg. 400? Wow.
It brought her the furtherest along in her treatment.
Ask your doc if you can cut back.

Hi, I'm on 200 mgs daily. I do have dizziness, vertigo, some flushing sweats and some ear issues. Which I did not have during my 15 mos on doxy.
BUT - the mino made my head so much clearer than when I was on doxy! I wasn't expecting such a big, positive difference, as doxy is also a good blood/brain barrier crossing drug & I thought my brain issues were mproved while taking it. But mino even better for me! My doxy dose was 400.
My left knee has totally blown up since mino, though, so I just wonder - good for the neuro aspect of LD, not so great for the arthritic side (which has not been too much of a problem for me over the past two years)?? At least for me.
Mino is a good drug, try to find a dose you can live with which is still effective at treating the LD.
And if you can't live with it, there are other good drugs that will help you.
Best -

lea..my daughter has been on it a year. She does not want to stop taking this drug.
After the first four months of building up, she made the most improvement and felt hope. She says if she has to take this drug the rest of her life, she would be happy.
She just added plaquinil to give it a boost.
Take care Kelmo
