SOO, what does all this mean? Are the results better since they were neg at first, they were treated and are now IGG positive?

How do I know if this last 30 day round is going to be enough.

Basically the Western Blot is an antibody test.

If your body is producing antibodies to Lyme, then more positive bands show.

Igenex recommends a 30 day run of antibiotics prior to testing.

To "prime" your immune system to post a response.

Thus, the probability of more positive bands showing up.

I have two children with Lyme.

One who is symptomatic...joint pain, fatigue, tremulousness, etc.

One who is more subjective with breathing difficulties at birth,

A hole in his heart at birth, very late to meet physical milestones, red pinnas, etc.

I believe both of mine to be congenital.

So... prior to taking my test results and bringing to the LLMD,

I did my homework. I went through and made a list of every possible/probable symptom.

Then off I went with them to a LLMD.

They are both doing well and have been receiving treatment for about one and a half years.

Do I think another 30 day course is enough?

No. However, my LLMD will not treat unless the child or adult has symptoms.

Regardless of the Western Blot results.

I would carefully research Lyme symptoms in toddlers and small children.

Also look for markers of symptoms of Lyme in children who may be congenital.

They both show Lyme specific bands.

Hugs,

Geneal

Normally, BB is highly evasive. It shields itself by hiding under pieces of the body's dead celss' membranes.

This way the body's immune cells can't bump into certain parts of teh bacteria...and subsequently doesn't make ab's to those parts of the BB.

Treatment will deters some of this activity, opening up more surface area on the bacteria for the body to recognize, and make new ab's against.

Therefore, the increase in number of (+) ab's AFTER treatment is actually a sign of slow progress.

Yes. Please keep going w/ abx.

You CAn take time off. Not like staph or strept infections where you stop abx and you get sicker in a matter of days or even hours.

Lyme is so slow growing that you can pause your abx for a month and not lose too much ground.

Ceftin doesn't do much though. I remember being on it for my 1st month (Dr. Sc-FL.) and got chronic fatigue symptoms only. Still sucked.

After that month...went to Rifampin and Zithromax. Then I started flipping out! I remember not understanding why I couldn't drink the beer I had in my hand (1-2 hours after my first dose!)?

Taking oral ABX for Lyme/bart/babs is like pouring a bucket of hot water on top of an iceberg!....takes lots of abx, and lots of time.

ceftin is not a good abx to use for mono therapy. especially for young ones w speech and developmental delays.

high doxy or other intracellular drugs combined w at least one other drug such as a macrolide or perhaps bicillin would do the trick much better IMO.

good luck.

I didn't think doxy was recommended for kids because it was a tetracycline and those stain the developing teeth?

Doxy should be 400 mg/day and any IND means there is SOMETHING there..and on a Lyme specific band thats a positive. You have to go by symptoms anyway! [Smile]
