Normally, BB is highly evasive. It shields itself by hiding under pieces of the body's dead celss' membranes.
This way the body's immune cells can't bump into certain parts of teh bacteria...and subsequently doesn't make ab's to those parts of the BB.
Treatment will deters some of this activity, opening up more surface area on the bacteria for the body to recognize, and make new ab's against.
Therefore, the increase in number of (+) ab's AFTER treatment is actually a sign of slow progress.

You CAn take time off. Not like staph or strept infections where you stop abx and you get sicker in a matter of days or even hours.
Lyme is so slow growing that you can pause your abx for a month and not lose too much ground.
Ceftin doesn't do much though. I remember being on it for my 1st month (Dr. Sc-FL.) and got chronic fatigue symptoms only. Still sucked.
After that month...went to Rifampin and Zithromax. Then I started flipping out! I remember not understanding why I couldn't drink the beer I had in my hand (1-2 hours after my first dose!)?
Taking oral ABX for Lyme/bart/babs is like pouring a bucket of hot water on top of an iceberg!....takes lots of abx, and lots of time.

ceftin is not a good abx to use for mono therapy. especially for young ones w speech and developmental delays.
high doxy or other intracellular drugs combined w at least one other drug such as a macrolide or perhaps bicillin would do the trick much better IMO.
good luck.

I didn't think doxy was recommended for kids because it was a tetracycline and those stain the developing teeth?

Doxy should be 400 mg/day and any IND means there is SOMETHING there..and on a Lyme specific band thats a positive. You have to go by symptoms anyway!
