Curious to know How many here take Ceftin 500mg pills ???

I currently take two 500mg twice per day.

Please share your experiences with this Antibiotic.

Interested in knowing the reason why this particular med is prescribed by your doctor over others ?

Any good / bad reactions ???

Anyone feeling better on Ceftin ???

Thank You.

Eric, I think it is a great treatment. Helped my brain and physical symptoms, though it takes a few months to see best results. [Smile]

Be sure to take your probiotics!

I have been taking this dose since the beginning of December. Did have about a week break due to an issue possibly caused by taking antibiotics. I have felt better per say since taking it. But I do still have symptons. I am currently waiting to hear from LLMD as have been out since this weekend. Not sure if I will continue with that or not.

I too was on Ceftin for quite a while and herxed like crazy from it, but was a very good result in the end.

I know many have had very good results with that abx, so hopefully it works out well for you.

The generic cefuroxime tastes really bad, and foams as soon as it hits liquid. Coating it with cooking oil seems to help the taste issue.

My son made most of his progress on 8 weeks of cefuroxime @1g/day, but he did develop GI issues that finally forced him off it.

I took 3,000 mg of Ceftin per day along with 3 other antibiotics. 500 mg 2x per day is a tiny tiny dose!! What else are you on with it?

I took up to 6grams a day, but that dose was only temp...normally I would take 3grams.

I later discovered alternative TX and only pulse abx now...but in VERY high doses.

This class of drug is almost impossible to od on, or more likely IMPOSSIBLE to OD on. Tetras are another story. Marcolides are also more risky.

I take the same dose of ceftin as you, plus zith and mepron.

If you are new to treatment, sometimes it is good to start with one med. and ramp up after the initial kill.

You can get pretty sick when you first start treatment (at least I did).

This is the highest dose of ceftin my llmd would give me because he was sure I'd end up with c. diff. In fact, he sent me out with a prescription for a c. diff test.

Maybe I'll ask for 3,000 mg per day at my next visit. But I don't have high hopes.

I did well on rocephin, and ceftin and rocephin are both cephalosporins. They do a number on the spirochete, but will drive them into the CWD form or cysts.

So, I think ceftin is good to bring the bacterial load down, but I don't think one will be cured on ceftin alone. Just my thoughts.

Also, I read somewhere here on LymeNet to dip the pills in vegetable oil before swallowing. They definitely go down easier that way! The generic ones I take stick in my throat and dissolve. Yuck.

Good luck to you.

Allie

Ceftin was enough to cure Dr. B. Nothing else needed.

I'm on the same ceftin dose. I was put on it after two months of Biaxin which had given me wicked insomnia and stained my teeth. I'm starting my fourth month of ceftin and I think its doing a lot of good and I can sleep. I've been taking it in combo with 400mg of Doxy twice daily which does a number on your stomach but now I'm pulsing flagyl for two weeks while staying on the ceftin and my stomach is doing better.

Wow some great replies and promising info by the sounds of it...

Keep em coming, both good and bad alike.

And I did hear about DR B,
but his case was diffrent I believe,
since he caught it early if Im not mistaken...

I am now wondering if I should also treat the HHV6 and EBV or leave them alone and see if they lower on their own with time...

Thank You So Much.

Eric

Interesting thread. Seems not many LLMDs prescribe oral Ceftin. I may buy some out of country.

As for Dr. Burrascano, I read that he actually had a serious bout with Lyme and cured it with high dose IV Ceftin X3. He blasted it for months, let it come back full force, blasted it again, let it come back again, then blasted it a third time...after third time he never heard from it again from what I read.

Pamela Weintraub who wrote Cure Unknown, was cured the same way. Hugh dose Ceftin in three cycles, allowing the bacteria to freely rome a pleasant environment each time before blasting them hard.

Not sure if they are both still free of Lyme to this day but hope so.

I just hope that my Ceftin Pills of 500mg twice a day can also take a same or similar effect...

Without insurance I believe they cost about 380.00 dollars for a bottle of 60 pills, generic brand.

Oh and as far as them tasting nasty,
yes they do, but if you drink them with tea or V8 juice real quickly, all the bad taste is gone.
