Hey friends,

My sister is quite upset.

She is 40-45, fair skinned , and has Hoshimotos thyroid also, hepatomegaly.

She has her share of beer and wine, but nothing too overwhelming. Her bloodwork is normal.

She is freaking out about the possibility of biliary scirosis, as she also has itching.

It's deep in the skin and usually behind the kidneys on her back, sometimes extremities.

Could this be TBD's?

Anyone sound like this....she also has back pain, but lifts her 50 pound boy frequently.

Any thoughts appreciated-

2roads

Could be yeast, if you ask me! I get this weird itching feeling in my arms when yeast is bad. It's like it's under the skin, almost like it's in the veins!!

Itching near the kidneys is kinda odd though!!

I don't know if this will be helpful or not, but I recently posted a thread about Lyme-induced autoimmune thyroiditis, also known as Hashimoto's:

"Association of Lichen Sclerosus and Autoimmune Thyroiditis: Possible Role of Borrelia Burgdorferi?"

As for the itching, I sometimes get itching under the skin in areas of extreme inflammation, like my spine, joints, etc. It's very uncomfortable and upsetting, because it seems so unnatural and disturbing, not to mention frustrating, since you cannot scratch the itch.

However, I have talked to my LLMD and my GP, and they both say that it is likely due to the inflammation in those areas, since I have Lyme involvement in my joints and spinal cord (CNS).

I think it's reasonable to suggest a Lyme evaluation to your sister if you are concerned. You might want to gather some articles on Lyme and thyroid involvement, and also search for itching and Lyme, and itching and thyroid, and see what comes up.

Once you had a good sampling of articles and case studies, your sister could read them and make a more informed decision as to whether she would like to go to an LLMD.

One thing is for certain - though Lyme is not the ONLY cause of thyroid issues, it is responsible for many cases. It loves areas like glands that are rich in collagen.

Good luck with your investigation, and your sister. I wish her the best.

I put ketoconazole cream topically on areas of my feet that feel like the itching under the skin kind of thing. Never have been able to see anything at all in the areas of intense itching.
