After reading a bunch of these posts, I'm getting the feeling that curing lyme is at best a remote possibility. Are we all doomed to live with this for the rest of our lives? Does anyone know anybody who has actually been pronounced cured?

I know one person cured. She did not have co-infactions. She was on antibiotics for 7 years, rotating every 3 months. For the rest of us, we can only hope for remission. Also, Wild Condor has a success story.

I know about 15 people with lyme and co's. 5 of them are good to go and have no problems... Me on the other hand, I just can't seem to take any permanent steps forward with IV's, heparin, and supplements.

I had undiagnosed lyme disease for 10 years. I also had babesiosis and bartonella. I completed my lyme treatment 4 1/2 years ago. I am still symptom-free, enjoying my life--the same life I had before lyme disease.
I also have a number of friends and acquaintances who got rid of their lyme disease.
We all went to doctors who follow the Burrascano lyme treatment protocol. So, that is the protocol I recommend to everyone.
The doc is the key to getting rid of this disease in my opinion. It is a complex disease, and it takes a lot of expertise on the part of the doc to get rid of it for you.
The cured people don't often hang out here. I still do to point people to the good docs.
So, you are not doomed.

I doubt there are many people who are cured (if any at all) , at best in remission. Those things have amazing persistence mechanisms.
Having said that I think its possible to be in very long remission- if the pathogens are weakened enough and your organism and immune system are strong enough.
I think about it like eternal tug -of -war. - We are never completely free of pathogens (bacteria and viruses and maybe even parasites ), our immune system keeps them in check. When it is weakened or failed then they start wreaking havoc.

I'd like to add a little to this mix. I went undiagnosed for many years and began an extensive treatment for Lyme for over 3 years.
I have now been in remission for over a year. But....I still am reminded to watch my yeast, sugar, fatigue, fibro, etc.
I feel when I start to hurt or start to feel the effects of too much yeast, then I back off and am very careful what I do and eat. The holidays are the worse and hardest to stay away from yeast and sugar.
But I am living a wonderful life and yet am aware of Lyme still lurking in the background. Cure? I'm not sure. But remission for Life? That's my prayer for us all.
Just pay attention when your body speaks. You will know the changes you need to make. It has worked for me many times. Merry Christmas to all!

I have nearly no symptoms most days now. I was diagnosed with both Lyme and RMSF. After 2 rounds of antibiotics, last dose mid-August, I am hopeful that I am cured and that my few lingering neuro symptoms are just due to damage that is still healing. I have also talked with 3 other people who were treated and after 6 months to 1 year, are completely without symptoms and consider themselves cured.
You HAVE to have hope, and keep positive thoughts....this is a rough road, and those things will sustain you; that, and the people on this forum.

The gerson therapy is based on healing the body with overwhelming nutrition. You drink 13 juiced drinks a day and you still have 3 meals, but restricted as to what they contain.
Essentially, the gerson diet floods a body with enzymes. Enzymes eat and disolve proteins and free radicals. The diet super charges the immune system.
It is normally used as a cancer diet. I think it can be very effective for lyme disease as well.
You have to use a norwalk juicer and you'll be purchasing about 20 lbs of fresh organic or local veggies a day. You'll also do some enzyme supplementation. It is a very labor intensive diet, no one should do this on their own. Usually the diet is done for about 8 to 12 weeks.
Included in the protocol are daily coffee enemas.
You can google Dr. Lorraine Day, who cured her self of cancer with this protocol.

I have the Gerson Therapy book! But, i have never tried it. If it really works, make sure to post a new thread when you're through it.
From what i read, you need to juice and eat vegetables in soups or simmer with the lid on to not have nutrients escape. Some of thats common sense...
But i do know Gerson has been very effective in curing early cancers, specifically in the colon. And its a long term treatment (strict diet) for a year or something, then you can slowly back off and just maintain. Most people feel soo good after doing it, they juice raw veggies daily for life.

I was undiagnosed for over 30 years. It got worse about six years ago until I was bedridden and significantly cognitively impaired. I am completely, 100% well today. I have no symptoms. I am on no medication other than natural thyroid.
I still work on detox and building back my body because I was sick for so long. I think that's something every healthy person should do considering the toxic environment we live in.

Many of the diseases abx are said to erradicate like some staph, strep, tuberculosis etc JUST GO DORMANT like borrelia. People don't say they are in remission from staph infections, do they? They say they are cured.
If about 2 decades later they get a relapse from staph, they'll believe it's a new re-infection, while it is not necessarily true.
Dr. K. says that when the body starts regulating internal temperature well and that body temperature naturally rises, for each degree F up, there will be a drop of 50% in the number of pathogens in the body.
That means, if I got this well, that 1 degree lower will ACTIVATE dozens of dormant pathogens back again! He's not speaking of borrelia only. He's talking about our whole ecossystem!
We lyme sufferers only think about getting cured or in remission from borrelia. Nothing is said about bartonella remission, fungal remission, candida remission, and the hundreds or possibly thousands of other critters that also go dormant or get doomed by our immune system.
One can fall sick again with a new tick bite and REACTIVATE dormant bartonella, mycoplasmas, babesia even if there was no new bart, mycop, bab in the new bite.
Every time me and my daughter get a relapse, it is a full relapse. Everything that was dormant CAN and DO come back again, babesia included, bartonella included. They come in package!
We had dozens of infected tick bites during these last years, and it's like the whole of them just come back again for party almost AT ONCE.
For my daughter, her lyme is mixed with staph infection. Her last relapse was headmastered by staph. It was staph infection that reactivated her lyme again.
How many times haven't I seen candida coming back? Dozens of times. We need some candida for digestion, right? It's the excess that causes bad symptoms. So it's IMPOSSIBLE to get candida totally wiped off our intestines (and it would be even bad idea).
In the case of candida, we say we are free from candida when we are not having candida symptoms. In fact, we are NOT free from candida, but we are free from candidiosis, from the disease caused by excessive candida.
I do think that with lyme it is similar. We don't need borrelia (or possibly we do, if we think in evolution?), it won't ever be wiped out LIKE the other hundreds (or thousands?) of pathogens we already carry inside us.
But if we call a staph infection cured after abx or other remedies, I do think we can call lyme cured if we get to be symptom free for at least one year. Symptom free + no lyme treatment, I mean.
What I DON'T think is remission is when people get symptom free from lyme BUT still continue on ever going abx or lyme killers. This is not remission. This is the symptom free phase. We are still sick with lyme, but killers get our infection under control.
It's already a wonderful phase. We only have to watch out a next tick bite!
Same for all other tick born co-infections, for candida, etc.
How many non-symptomatic viruses do we have? Possibly hundreds? Are we sick from them? No. Are we cured from them? If we have no symptoms, we take nothing against these viruses, does it matter to call that state 'remission' or 'cure'?
For lyme, I think what is important is to distinguish 3 'phases' in healing:
1- being symptom free but still in treatment (a very NICE level one can reach, life goes back to almost normal, but this is NOT remission).
2- being symptom free, no more in lyme treatment, but still a bit weak, treating body disregulations, and other problems lyme had caused. This is 'remission' but any bigger stress can re-activate lyme.
3- being still symptom free after years, and the same period lyme treatment free, feeling good. Why not calling that a cure, like for all the other pathogens we call cure?
Just think that if we take our bodies and juice it in a mixer and separate the cells that belonged to us from the FOREIGN non-human cells, we will lose. There are MORE foreign cells than our own in our bodies!
While many cells are from beneficial beings populating our bodies, others are from pathogenic beings (doomed by our immune system) or just there taking part in Evolution.

I'm in what Brussels labeled #3 though it's only been since August that I have had no symptoms. I am no longer weak, but I do work on detox and building a strong body, like a healthy person would.

I forgot to say that I reached remission a couple of times, but relapsed after a couple of months (maximum 5 months) or got again bitten (as I got bitten almost every summer)...
My daughter reached remission for longer periods, about 8 months or so? Until she got bitten again, as she was bitten every year too, and not only once.
Now, we are again both in remission, no lyme treatment, no symptoms, for 8 months.
She still got bitten 3 times this summer (June and July), but they were not infected (I think), because she didn't fall sick and got no preventative treatment.
So yes, it's possible, but it has been a rough way. I'm crossing fingers we'll reach a one year mark lyme treatment free/ symptom free next May.
