I have been chowing down on quite a few of those Atkins Bars. Only 1 gram of sugar without any sugar alcohol.

Yes, they are great... but don't overdo... They do contain plenty of natural sugars, as Six said. Eating fruit would be less hazardous with regard to yeast. ( SOME fruits )

Dates are nutritious but contain extremely concentrated sugars (and are the major component of Lara Bars)- Lara Bars are really, really tasty but if you're trying to avoid candida at all, they're probably off-limits.

I'll repeat the sugar warning about Lara Bars. They should be okay as an occasional snack, but I wouldn't suggest eating them all the time.
I find the regular bars overly sweet and mushy, but the chocolate ones are really really good. Look for their Jocalat line (cocoa ones) -- I eat the chocolate-cherry ones sometimes, which are my favorite.
Another good snack bar I recently found are some nut bars I found at Costco (Mareblu). They contain no bad stuff (besides a little added sugar), and it's not too expensive. I wouldn't overdo them either, due to Omega 6 content in nuts, but as an occasional snack it's fine. They come in 3 flavors; here is their blueberry one:

Okay...I thought some sugars were okay per Dr. B. I also thought nuts were okay in general.
So confused about Lyme diet.

- It's the glycemic index that matters so. Dried fruits are very high so they just need to be minimized (and if candida is an issue, avoided). Fresh fruits are better, and those lower in sugar like dark berries or tart apples are best.
A lot depends on one's personal relationship with candida, too, but generally, looking up the glycemic index is good. A Lara Bar after a meal is not going to have the same glycemic impact as if in the middle of the afternoon when the sugars can be just too much.
Still, fresh fruit (or frozen) and nuts are excellent. You can all all sorts of breakfast spices to nuts: cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg or go a spicy route with chili powder, etc.
A Lara Bar can be broken up and mixed with nuts, in a sort of granola.
The closer to the land, the better. The fresher, the better. A fresh fig does not have nearly the glycemic impact as a dried fig.
You might do a search on "Glycemic Index" and also on the "Mediterranean Diet" (minus the wheat and the wine, of course).
Also search for Quinoa. It's a life-saver. So is Forbidden Black Rice found at www.LotusFoods.com - it has a good protein content and great minerals. -

My wife and I enjoy eating Kind bars on occasion. Seem pretty healthy and low sugar content. All natural, no preservatives.

I've been on quest for wholesome, yummy power bar for years. Found one that beats Lara, Bumble Bar and Kind by far!

Sorry, it's Boomi Bar Healthy Hazel Energy Bar. Just looked at a wrapper and it's appropriately made by Divine Foods!
Kind bars are tasty, but have more sugar. Reminds me of somewhat healthy peanut brittle. Consider Kind your new "candy bar" to splurge on once every few months at most.
Bumble Bars are pretty good, too, but sorta dry and flat.
I've been purchasing Boomi Bar Healthy Hazel by the case and wow-ing everyone i share 'em with. I have hypoglycemia and know how important a good snack can be to rescue one found too hungry away from home.
I keep a Healthy Hazel bar in my purse, my backpack, glove compartment, and desk drawer. They're ideal around 4 p.m. when you need to carry on before dinner. They are there in case of emergency to eat BEFORE a low blood sugar crash.
Be careful not to abuse any prepared food by indulging too often. I don't eat more than 2 or 3 Boomi Bars ever in a week. Usually just aver about 1 bar/wk. ymmv

I like Larabars also. One way to look at it, if someone has a hankering for a candy bar, a Larabar would be a great substitute.

I take Omega 3 supplements and eat nuts. I see nothing wrong with it myself.
Smile... The Boomi Hazel has less sugar than some of the others. I buy them too! Read labels on everything.

Yup, lowest sugar, AND tasty, AND satiating. (That's rare for power bars.) Significantly better resultant blood sugar than candy.
I read ALL labels. Always lookin' for lowest sugar first, then highest protein content, then lowest carbs.
I eat asst nuts all the time. Walnuts and raw almonds most of all. Also pecans, sunflower seeds, cashews, pine nuts, prob in that order.
Remember to keep nuts in the fridge for frequent use or freezer if you want to store 'em. Nuts should not be kept at room temp or warmer because their natural oils can become rancid.
I never ingest any hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated anything.
ott70 is doin' well to use a Larabar as a treat rather than a candy bar. We need protein in our snacks.
On the labels theme, have you noticed the tricky PR switch to "corn sugar" instead of "high fructose corn syrup?" Great. Keep confusing the masses...

Are there any nut/seed free bars out there?
I miss the convenience of bar snacks, but can't have nuts/seeds in the house any longer.

Okay, I'm wondering if I'm from a different planet from ya'll cause I tried a Lara bar one time and had to spit it out...it was that bad. Seriously, I would have done better by going out in my yard, picking up a handful of pinestraw and shoving it in my mouth lol. Yuck.

This woman, Jenny, has a good "real food" site.
She has a You Tube video here on how to make your own "Larabars" using a food processor.
The recipe involves soaking the nuts to make them more digestible, but if you don't soak your nuts, you could probably skip that step.

I use the raw revolution bars they are at whole foods. Pretty high in sugar but dont know what else to look for.
