My son's dr. informed us that my son was positive for Lyme (Western Blot done through Stony Brook). No details, I have to call back. Can you get a false positive? Not to be a sceptic, but I'm new to this and my son has been diagnosed with 4 other things prior to this. I want to believe that we've finally, after 4 years, found an answer. Help!

Yes you can get a false positive : if your son has viral titers like EBV or CMV. Other infections can give a false positive. Research the test and research "can viruses give a false positive on Western Blot". Take the whole test apart as you research- things like each band number on the blot. Also research every test and each result online. don't settle for one or two explanations.
Good Luck. Mentioning what else he has been tested for and the results might give the forum more to comment on.
