Yikes, I have to start Bactrim tonight. I already have such anxiety. If this medication makes me even more anxious, I don't know if I'll be able to deal.
Jane, did your daughter's throat go back down? Did she have to go to the ER?
All the best to everyone!

I started Bactrim DS about 2 weeks ago, and slowly increased my dose. I've been at the full dose for a few days now. I feel much the same as you. I'm hoping it all subsides.
This is a great drug since it treats bart and babs.

My daughter was taking Bactrim for two weeks, had a severe allergic reaction to it. Had high fevers 103.5.... had to stop it immediately.. also made her throat feel swollen. You said you have fevers of 98.6??? that's normal temperature?

I don't understand why you think you have a fever when it is 98.6 which I though was normal.
I have been taking Bactrim S since Feb with no problems. It has been a great drug for me.
But when you first treat bart the herxing can be very emotional - I also had headaches, hot flashing, twitches, burning shins and feeling I had to urinate a lot. These symptoms diminished and disappeared. They do come back if I quit the abx.

Several have mentioned feeling as if their throats were closing/swelling while on Bactrim.
I currently take Ceftin and often feel that my lymph nodes are swollen (in lower neck and sides of neck).
I've read that swollen lymph nodes are a symptom of bartonella (and possibly lyme & other cos?).
Therefore, how would I know if my throat is feeling tight from the swollen lymph nodes or the medication?
How do you differentiate? I would hate to ignore a drug reaction because I think it's swollen lymph nodes.
I'd also hate to stop taking a helpful drug unnecessarily because I incorrectly think I'm having a drug reaction.
What do you do?

I wish we could tell the difference jwick25.
I feel the same way, how do you know if herx or allergy?
I do not want to risk an allergy with our daughter , so she will not take this again.
The Benadryl seemed to help right away, so we did not go to the ER. My daughter was already very anxious and given that the Benadryl helped right away I felt okay that she was safe.

Wow, I'm glad I'm not the only one with some issues.
Regarding the temp, my normal body temp is 97 so 98.6 or a little higher is making me sweat and quite miserable.
the headaches are almost daily and wipe me out. today wasn't that bad but also very tired.
Have a good evening.

My body temp now runs about 97 too. Taking bactrim, clarithromyacin and nystatin and even after a couple of months I have wicked headaches and bone pain. Not any more anxious than usual tho. Namaste

Today as soon as I took the bactrim DS, my head is really spacey and have a headache.
Anyone else deal with this?
Body temp today before the med was 97.6. Within a hour or two of taking it, it's now 98.9

For me the bactrim clarithro combo put my Bartonella symptoms into remission, I am still on the Bactrim and have been since Feb. 2010. Now taking Bactrim, doxy, levoquin and artemisinin and I seem to be hitting Bart, Babs and Lyme/Bb with this combo. I also had some sick feelings about every 10-15 days on the Bactrim and would skip a dose only about 2X/mo. Also read that taking more than 1000 mg Vit C could help with that and am now able to take Bactirm for weeks/months at time without a problem. I think it is a toxic rather than allergic reaction. I have posted on that reaction which has been well researched by others elsewhere on this site.
