Joe, have you been taking probiotics at least two hours away from the meds since starting antibiotics? This is very important.

I think you should let your doctor know about this. Depending on the severity, he/she may want you to take a break to get things under control.

Yes I do take probiotics daily but some on here have suggested it's not quite enough. Currently take a total of 150 billion micro/day usually 3 to 4 hours away from meds.

Doc suggested trying 200 billion micro or a total of 4 tablets but I'm still not sure that is gonna do it based on others posts

Thnking of just doubling the dose to see if that works. I have to get a handle on this.

Have you tried Florastor? It will help ward off c diff and seems to "stop" things up.

No I haven't tried that yet. But I have a sneaking suspicion I will be very shortly lol. Have to pick some up with ole for the yeast and hopefully I'll be in good shape [spinning smile]

i would call your LLMD and see what he/she says. you may be having an allergic reaction or you may need a break as sammi suggested.

i read somewhere that you're not supposed to take anti-diarrhals but can't remember where...is there a med to help with memory?! LOL

good luck!

You also may need to be tested for C diff. Immodium will cause the c diff to stay in the bowels longer and can cause long term damage.

Get tested.

I bet Florastor will work for you.

I hate the anti-diareah meds - they just mess you up. The only time I've used them in recent years was when I had to get on a plane.

Are you on nystatin or diflucan? That will at least keep the yeast at bay.

Let your doctor know. You may need a test for c.diff.

Try not to take immodium, it holds the toxins/waste/infection in. This can make you sicker. If you are having so many watery stools that you are getting dehydrated then you need to see a doctor ASAP.

You might consider making some temporary diet changes to help stop the diarrhea. Bananas, potatoes, white rice, bread(not grainy), and meats are notoriously constipating. Other fruits and juices will make the diarrhea worse.

Contact your doctor today so that you know what to do for the weekend.

You may not WANT to stop it. Your body is releasing a lot of toxic waste. Let it go. It will likely settle down soon (of course ask your doctor if it's going on too long).

Of course, you don't want to be malnourished or dehydrated.

Coconut flakes, mix into your oatmeal -- and carob root powder will help.

Too much of a probiotic dose can cause loose bowels, too. At first, anyway. But then that should balance out.

Not to mention Immodium can raise your blood pressure (if this is already an issue with you, something to be aware of).

I would call your dr. C Diff is nothing to mess with.

Getting dehydrated is so not fun, and some of the symptoms can be... quite a lot like Lyme. Such as painful muscles, brain fog, light-headedness, and your pressure will also go up...

Thanks to all for the input here.

I suspected as much about the anti d meds but wanted opinions from you folks.

Keebler I never gave a thought my body maybe flushing the toxins out. This has been going on about 2 weeks. NOT constant until the last few days.

I am not running to the bathroom every 15 minutes or anything. Usually 3-4 times/day. But when the urge comes...... well you know lol

I called the doc and he said double up on the probiotics to see if it helps at all. That will give me a total of 300-400 billion micro. Does florastor have anything different in it that will help?

I also asked about the diflucan but it was suggested that I stop the abx one at a time to determine which gives yeast issues??

That would make more sense I think for the runs than anything.

I thought most of you folks took diflucan just to prevent yeast because of all the abx

lymeinhell I don't think c-diff is an issue right now. Even though I have the runs, the distinct c-diff smell isn't present.

I honestly think it's the amox that is causing the bowel issues.

I need to go to the pharmacy and pick up the diflucan and get some OLE so I have both on hand then decide which to take.

I will pick up some florastor for the runs in case the probiotics double up thing doesnt work.

I can't believe I telling you all this private stuff lol. I usually keep these things to myself but you folks that have been through it are the experts so what the hey why not

Bicillin is an excellent alternative to amoxicillin-more effective too.

I agree with Keebler, don't stop it, the bowel is a major detox pathway. 3-4 times a day isn't so much.

I am not a doctor and this is not medical advice but only my personal experience and opinion.
