I tested IgM+ 1:160 for Duncani and my doctor gave me Mepron + Zith. I've read a lot about how this strand is supposively resistant to Mepron. If this is true then why am I even on Mepron? My doctor didn't mention anything about Artemisinin but I started taking 400mg a day on my own.
Anyone have success eradicating Duncani with Mepron ?

I had an appointment with my LLMD today. We were talking about babs and he mentioned that certain doctors were now reporting rarely finding babs that are resistant to mepron.
I can't say whether is was duncani or microti, and he made it seem like it was very rare.
he did say that babs seems to be tougher to get rid of than it was years ago.

I keep relapsing after more than a year of Babs treatment (I have Duncani). At the latest ILADS, I read that the dosages for Mepron are now higher than what I was on - they are talking double than the usual dosage. So maybe you can ask your doctor if he/she has read about what the ILADS discussion was and whether to do higher doses. I've been on Alinia, then Mepron/Malarone combo, now back on Alinia, and I get symptoms a few weeks after I go off.
I had no symptoms of Babesia before treating, and did not want to treat it and kept arguing with my LLMDs (I understand that you're supposed to treat everything and I've been in treatment for six years for Lyme and multiple coinfections.) But there are some other patients I know like me who basically opened a Pandora's box of new symptoms by treating it. Are you very symptomatic?

My son has Duncani and his LLD treated him with Artemesia and Zith. He seems okay now.

It's B.microti that is supposedly showing signs of resistance.
But I don't even think that's true. Docs are reporting that patients are not responding to Mepron like they have previously. That could mean MANY things. For one, that more patients have the B.duncani strain, which is much more difficult to treat.
I also think more pathogens are being discovered, that respond to antimalarials, but are also difficult to treat. The Fry bug comes to mind.
Jill is correct. Often higher doses are required. Sometimes even triple doses.
I know someone who had both Babs strains (more and more common) and beat them both with Mepron combos. I still think Mepron/Zith is a good starting place.

I'm confused, I've never heard anything about Microti being resistant, I've only heard that Duncani is tougher to eradicate as well as possibly resistant to Mepron.

Just make sure you don't take the artemesinin every day. If you do, it will become ineffective. It must be pulsed.
My doc had me take it 3 days in a row and 4 days off every week. It worked for me.
There is a current thread on this explaining why.

I had exactly the same question and even posted it today but deleted it when I saw your post.
I have heard this to - that babesia duncani is resistant to Mepron. That is alarming. Does Malarone work better?
I was taking artemisinin with Bactrim DS and the LLMD told me I probably made the babs resistant to artemisinin so not to bother with it any more.
I have been on Mepron/zithro for nearly 7 weeks. Some symptoms are gone or improved but I have new ones - nightly headaches.
Mepron is an out of pocket expense and I can't afford to take it if it does not work. I wonder if adding something else into the mix would help. Like Bactrim DS and the art again.

I can't remember where I read/heard about B.microti becoming resistant. I most likely heard it from my LLND.
Like I said, there is no proof. It's possible patients aren't responding the way they used to because they also have B.duncani.
I also don't know about B.duncani becoming resistant. It is possible. One of the reasons that malaria is such a problem is that it became quinine resistant.
I do know B.duncani is a bear of a bug, but people do recover. There is a thread resurrected from 2007 about alternative Babesia herbs.
Herbs help prevent antibiotic resistance. There is tons of research in this area.
If you are worried about resistance, add a combo of whole herbs (not the constituent Artemisinin).
If you feel your strain is already resistant, try different abx combos.
